Obviously we wont have got beat off a side sat two places above darlo on account of us not being good enough or having a useless manager.

Was it just bad luck yet again? Or maybe it was too dark for our players. Was the wind too strong? Or maybe our fans were not noisy enough?

Ok, so it was a meaningless game to many but surely some alarm bells must be ringing. We supposedly have a great squad with great strength in depth but team selections and recent results suggest otherwise.

We would not have scored if we had played all night long. Nothing went for us tonight. They had 2 shots and scored twice.

That said, we should have pummled them. They were not a threat at all.

I'm proper frustrated but it's not the end of the world. taz

For what its worth, I don't think calling for the managers head in what was a glorified reserve game is the way forward. Just my opinion like!

Were people at the game calling for the managers head?

There was a group in the Town End who were, yes. I cold clearly hear them from my seat near the players tunnel.

I also think it's premature to call for Turner's head just yet. That was woeful but I've seen and heard enough this season to suggest that, as a short-term solution, Turner will do an adequate enough job. I don't think he's the man to really make us progress however.

To quote that port vale manager adams, we we're all furr coat and no nickers.

I know i haven't been much recently, but are the players not allowed to shoot anymore?

It's all nice approach play, lovely flicks, which is all well and good, but the end product was not there at all.

Humphreys played some lovely football, and was one of our most creative players, but there was no bite upfront.

McSweeny could play till it was midnight and he wouldnt do anything of note.

Collins and liddle we're solid and the full backs got into the game.

Newell doesnt have hair anymore he just wears a helmet.

Couldn't agree more. The conditions made it perfect to have a few low shots that whould skid off the turf. Instead, we try to walk it in.

I also noticed that we were keeping hold of the ball in midfield in the first half which did nothing whatsoever to put pressure on their defence. What exactly is the point of this?

We have absolutely nothing to worry about. We should have beat Stockport but were desperately unlucky, we should have beat Exeter but were desperately unlucky. After all we had well over ten chances at Exeter. I don't know how many chances we had tonight because, having spent a small fortune going to Stockport and Exeter, I couldn't be bothered. Listening to Poolsplayer, all I could hear was Micky Barron saying that nothing would fall for us. Is that what we have come to expect????? Are we
looking for scraps from a team who struggled to beat the likes of Darlington?? These half time/ full time discussions that we appear to be having smells of management by consent to me.
Never mind I will be back on Friday as usual where we will marmalize Brentford.

perhaps they have fooked off, and we might finally be allowed a sensible debate on the merits of a manager who has won 40 odd of his last 180 odd games in charge and who seems to keep his job by winning one game in every four ?

Welcome back Mr Chip, although im disappointed you didnt include me in the list of names in your first paragraph.

Thanks for that, Mr fireball. I love debating football, as do you, but namecalling and the like simply to hide an inability to debate a point really turns me cold.

Yes welcome back chip, but equally, where is my name?

Walking out from the ground one fan said, when my daughter said we should have just went to asda tonight, he said i wish i just went to asda, i dunno how someone with such a bad home record is still in a job.

Sums it up.

Well I was aghast at how bad tonights game was refred 2 god awful sides kicking a ball about for 90 minutes. Grimsby were hopeless, of that they're is no doubt. And yet Pools team, most of which would like to consider themselves first teamers, and all of whom have been involved recently in the first 16, were absolutely dreadful refred taz rage 2 moments of quality in the game, their 1st was a cracking free kick, boyd contributed the only other moment in the game when cracking the bar from long range, via the keepers glove! All donkey jacket and no y fronts would be more apt than some of the pevious analogies used in this thread.
I've read on here recently that this season we have our strongest squad ever rolfl rolfl rolfl rolfl rolfl clappp clappp clappp holy s h i t tonight our 'strong' squad couldnt beat one of the worst teams ive seen here in all the time ive been going to the vic, we never came close to scoring, although Rowell should have in the first half but hit the tamest shot ever, and Mcsweeney should have scored 2nd half... refred
Can I claim for my tenner back bbolt
Im thoroughly down hearted about tonight, and before someone pipes up with how rosey things are and this wasn't a proper game, it was a competitive game and yet we rolled over to a horrendous side and only a win on friday will make our league position look anything but poor come sat afternoon, we are 2 points above were we dont want to be come the end of the season, not much at all, but it seems these 2 points that 'have us comfortably in mid table' are enough to lead people to believe everythings rosey, im sad to say that I dont
see it.

I'll tell you what, Micky Adams has a big fat bounder of a head, is a 'lovely lovely person' and couldn't manage to fit his arse on on a toilet seat, let alone manage a football team

IOR have sent a clear message out year on year regarding the Autoglass, they couldn't care less, which is fair enough because it is their train set and they bankroll us to the tune of a million pound a year

I've got a genuine question me. If this much vaunted defence is any good, i.e. Liddle and Collins solid, Flinders a good keeper, Austin the best fulll back in the lower leagues and Haslam, a former Championship regular, how come we've shipped 18 goals in 14 games, 7 in the last 3?? sctatchinghead sctatchinghead

Il get stick but thought Flinders was poor last night. Should have saved first and went down far too early for second imo.

The frustrating thing about Humphreys last night was the number of times he had the ball 25 yards from goal and played it into feet into a very crowded penalty area. He didn't do too bad generally but I'd love to see a centre midfield of Jones and Rowell given a go but I doubt we ever will.

For the love of God. People are making well constructed (and fair) criticsms of a players performance and then someone has to come on and say he is being made a scapegoat. Most players have been criticised at some point since last nights mate and rightly so, it's not a problem; it's our right as a fan.

Nobody on here is making him the scapegoat banghead banghead banghead

People are merely saying that they were all rubbish Flinders included. Flinders has probably been the least criticised squad member this season so I dont find it unreasonable for him to get some criticism too, do you?

Right...............errrrrr...................a lot to read there, and some comments aimed in my direction.

Lets get the facts out of the way first shall we?

Last night was shite. I suspect a lot of you that have posted on this thread werent actually there though.

But it was shite. With a capital S.

But clearly this game wasnt as important to the manager, players and club as it was to us.

The manager wouldnt have made 5 changes if it was. Surely?

We DO have strength in depth and we do have a good squad. But not when they are nearly all given a run out together.

For example, Bjornnson, who was awful, may well have been better alongside Boyd, rather than the ineffective, and at times, downright lazy larkin.

Turner should have changed things before half time, as it was clear to anyone there that the front two were bobbins. The fact that he left things for 18 minutes in the second half at 0-2, was criminal.

The difference in class between Larkin and Bjornnson, and Boyd and Behan, was huge. But there again, those that have seen him play the most suggest that Larkin is better out wide than down the middle.

McSweeney was awful too. Nowhere near as good as Brown, or even Larkin? maybe.

I bet the Sweeney knockers are quiet tonight as well. Rowell did ok, but just didnt influence the game enough. Humphreys didnt realy help, by almost refusing to drive the team forward. This was like a practice match to him. He should have done more.

What a waste Austin is at left back. He still played well, but should be right back. Haslam is just not good enough.

Collins and Liddle need to shape up too. Another through ball straight down the middle caught them out last night.

The return of Brown, Boyd, Behan, Sweeney and Hartley will improve the team no end.

No need to panic ladies. Or start your yearly witch hunt just yet.

And Yubep, if you are going to use my name to make comments, at least try and show some intelligence to get the comments right. I hate having to correct people on here that incorrectly quote me all the time.

Theres a good lad.

That sounds like a decent honest assessment

I will say something, I don't see IOR sticking around much longer the way things are going and the general apathy towards the club from us the supporters and the fact the gates are dropping and dropping, yes you can blame Turner but apart from our promotion the atmosphere has been awful every season back in League 1. If people aint winging they aint happy

We were absolute tripe during Wilson's last days with us too..

What about the same competition a couple of seasons back??? We went 1-0 down early doors at Lincoln...ended up scoring five.
1-0 down at Scunthorpe in the Carling Cup ( that's championship Scunthorpe), went down to ten men and then finished up winning.
2-0 down at Walsall, won 3-2. FA cup comeback at Brighton. There is an example in all four of the competitions we were in under Wilson where we have fought back.
I am not a great fan of Wilson, nor would I have him back, but when you consider what he had at his disposal compared with the backing Turner has had, he is streets ahead of Turner.
Compare their records in this league. People go on about Turner's first stint at Pools. That was in the bottom tier. Wilson took exactly one season to get us out of the bottom tier.
Wherever you care to look the evidence is there.
Wilson went to Swindon, changed the squad, and hey presto they are gelling.
An opening of the eyes is required here.

Maybe if Danny boy had the backing and the ear of uncle ken things might have been different under CT 11 new signings ans in the same position as when Danny boy went.
