Got a new carpet about 3 months ago,throughout the living room,dining room,stairs & landing,came to about £600.
Today I bumped the ironing board, red hot iron fell off & burnt a big triangle into the carpet banghead

Well go all over it with the iron and tell everyone it's the pattern.

I done exactly the same thing a month ago! In the front roomof our new house (with new carpet). There is an iron shaped imprint and the iron was only in contact with the floor for about 0.00253 seconds.

I have tried steaming the imprint - no good.

Also tried brushing the area with a wire brush which helped a little bit but not much.

The only alternative is a new carpet or a rug!

Or rearrange the furniture.

Yeah but its the very centre of the living room. It would look silly putting an armchair there or the tv (or a pair of shoes  )
