I must make the effort to get up there & see that.
I was just too young to see The Clash or The Pistols,but I went to Middlesbrough Rock Garden(AKA The Cavern) around 82/83 time & saw The Angelic Upstarts,GBH,Discharge,Vice Squad all right in their prime & I would probably recognise a lot of those old faces.
Chip,a coupla years ago 99 were at The Studio,they cant manage No Pity now its too strenuous

when I was on my YTS course thing, I was put on placement and there was this punk fella there pink mohican etc, got chatting to him and he says he used to be in a band. oh aye, what did you play?
"nowt, just used to stand at the front and get gobbed on!!!!"

In the early 80s I was a teenage punk rocker living in Billingham & as Chip & ECG say,punk bashing was a regular thing,the main culprits were the skinheads into the two tone scene
A memorable occasion was in the Billingham Forum disco,there was a Splodgenessabounds B side that used the "Hey you" dialogue from the start of Madness' One Step Beyond,I got the DJ to play it,the skinheads all got on the danceflorr,listened to the opening words,then started dancing before realising it was the wrong song & sat back down rather sheepishly.
Cue 3 of us rushing onto the dancefloor & dropping our keks,pointing bare arses straight at the skins,we got a good kicking,but it was well worth it to make them look that stupid
