the demise of corporal punishment was the catalyst for the problems we now have in society.
the youth of today know they are untouchable(by punishment not fiddling) and as such can do/say what they want without fear of recriminations

bringing the cane back will have zero affect imho. what might work tho is if they stopped hoying benefits and houses at single parents. scrap child benefit, housing benefit, council tax rebates etc for 16 and 17 year old bairns and they might stop getting up the duff.

i never had the cane at school. never gave it any real thought to be honest.

saw plenty of lads get the cane though, and for the vast majority it had zero effect on them, which is why they got it over and over and over again. either that or they just stopped going to school altogether.

i sometimes marvel at these people who go on about how the cane meant schools in the 70's and 80's were wonderful and full of perfectly behaved well adjusted young people. the way i remember it my school was full of extremely violent thugs who did whatever the fook they wanted and spent most of what little time they were there kicking the shiit out of anything that moved or smashing/vandalising the gaff up.

the teachers were a band of assorted drunks, mental cases, or newbies doing their level best to survive. i had an english teacher for instance that would spend the entire lesson studying the days racing, in between hoying things at anyone who didnt pretend to be reading a book. i think there were about 250 kids in my year of which about 40 went on to six form and about 12 to university. the rest were booted out onto the dole queues with a couple of cse's if they were lucky.

their mothers see kids as little cash cows what will get them a council house, child benefit, and income support where no fooker is hassling them to get a job, so they can lounge about in their jim jams all day watching shyte on tv.

their fathers are generally just lowlife too fooking thick to wear a condom and willing to sleep with any member of the opposite sex that will have them.

i didnt misbehave because i was brought up properly by my mother and my grandparents. those that did misbehave generally speaking came from families where the parents didnt give a flying fook about them.

i'd argue the main reason theres so many kids in trouble these days is cos theres too many arseholes who have kids who dont actually fooking want them, and play no part in bringing them up properly.
