BBC drama at its very best.

Realistic, gritty and as horrible as reality. It was a fairly accurate picture of PMC's (private military companies) in Iraq a few years ago. Those who know me personally will be aware that I know a little about that grubby world and this programme was incredibly accurate as far as my experience goes. A superb portrayal.

If you wanted to get picky you could pull the uniforms to bits and the arm flashes and the cap badges etc but as a drama it was excellent and gave an insight into the trouble this country has got stored up when all these young lads 'rotate to the world'.

I deliberately waited for all 3 to be shown so I could watch them all in one go. For once, I was really looking forward to something and wasn't let down, really gripping stuff.

Mr I, one thing I found hard to believe was that Private Contractors and the military would mix in military accomadation/canteens etc sctatchinghead Not picking faults I would just be surprised if that happens in real life.

Back in 2004, which is the only period I can give an opinion on; pretty much everyone was based in the 'green zone' that means that everyone mixes and lives together, albeit in different accomodation. Mind you, the green zone is a pretty big place. Also bear in mind that theres a lot of crossover. Lads are there who have recently got out of the British Forces and are there purely to take the money, working in the same locations as their former unit. So you get guys in theatre who have recently served together but are now working for different organisations - they are bound to mix. Ex Para Reg in particular tend to be in abundance. Theres was a company called USC run by an ex Para/SAS guy called Taff Philpott (otherwise known as Mike Curtis under his author psydoneum). They became know as '5 Para' (there are four official para battalions) because USC recruited almost exclusively from ex Para Reg. Consequently everyone knows everyone else.

Some people made a shit load of money. One guy in particular I know, put over 10 million dollars away.

Don't know if you remember but I did. I went for four months on $800 dollars a day. Trouble was that my daughter was inconsolable and when I came back for some r&r she was hysterical for three days before I was due to go back. So I didn't.

I'll have to think of a good reason why we should have been there.............. hmmm...... I'll come back to you on that one, I'm struggling.

I noticed those two lads who were killed. Thems the risks I'm afraid. they don't pay the big bucks for now't. Not that its big bucks any more, money is down to $250 a day in some cases. Gues why - the Eastern Europeans have come in and are working for next to nothing.
