A couple of friends and i were sat talking over a couple of cans last night about thing we miss about Hartlepool and ended up at the park show that was held at Ward Jackson park but became so popular it was moved to Grayfeilds.
What a weekend it was looked forward to it coming around every year.
There was massive marquees with held the pigeon. rabbit. horticultural. cakes. and budgies shows outside in the main arena was the dog show. daredevil motor bike riders. police dog display teams. and its a knockout plus much more.
On the enclosure was the 5 - a - side tournament.
On the bowling green the bowls tournament.
There was side shows. charity stalls. beer tent. vintage cars and bikes on show it was the high light for the town and it was a fantastic weekend.
Faded the last couple of years due to lack of funding but have some great memories of the Hartlepool show.

Aye I'll never forget the first group competition in the Park bandstand, with the Hafta Daarks stealing the show!
They scared the shite out of all the grannies.

Eyup I was there at that do. The Park Bandstand can't ever have been put to so much use. Must have been 1964/65 with the Haafta Daarks a product of the Ken Tyzack talent disovery machine. Alan Plaice who I went to school with was disciple of early Clapton and lead guitar. Good bloke Ken Tyzack of Seaton arcades and the Rainbow Cafe.

I always remember going to Ward Jackson park when I was a kid and there being some big show on there and part of it was an 'Its a Knockout' style thing. I didn't realise that it was probably the Hartlepool show - I thought, until now, that that was always on Grayfields...

loved it on greyfields, went every year, the old man grew plants and vegetables and all that dad stuff and it meant nothing to us so we let him get on with it.

We went n played on the shows and just knocked about, i seem to remember an army style course you could go on, swing on ropes and run up planks of wood and stuff, was ellish.

The town show at grayfields was shit.

Honestly, the rose tinted specs on here are foookin great.

All it was ever good for was foookin the football pitches up at the start of the season.

Come on lads, how many bastad tents did you ever go in, and say....this is great.........look more home grown vegetables on show. rolfl rolfl

It was the most pointless show since the Carnival. bbolt

If that's the case why do you turn your Zafira as a carnival float, and you dress up as a Victorian chimney sweep?
