Was talking to my Sis the other day and having a laugh about when we were kids. Anyway I was reminding her of when we used to spend many a happy hour playing at the adventure playground on the Central estate. Loads of rope swings and big wooden structures with climbing nets and that sort of thing, she couldn't remember it.
I am now beggining to doubt myself, it was there wasn't it, just along from my old school Hart Road juniors.

While I am at it, the Christmas parties at the Castrol factory on the trading estate, huge great party, anyone else go?

There was also a little sports hall type place at the other end, nearer the headland, I remember playing crab football in there.

Is crab football still played?

I remember the adventure playground - but not in it's full glory.

Me father always called that piece of land (and still does, as do I) just to the left of the footy pitches the adventure playground.

I have the vaguest of memories of it having slides, swings, roundabout etc but thats about it.

The Lord Clyde was to the right of the pitches at the junction of where west view road finally ends and meets cleveland road.

I'll ask the old boy later - he may even have some photos - i'll pm you when i get them

Did the Lord Clyde used to have a big Cameron's Logo painted on the side of the pub? Or am I getting it wrong here? It was just before the coal merchants on the left hand side going towards the Headland. The fish market used to be on the opposite side of the road. What a smell that plaice made!!!

Correct Mr Parmo ...... remember having to go to the fish house when I was a kid, My mam used to send me as it was cheaper than the shops, however it involved two bus journies to get there and obviously two back.... economics never were her strongpoint.

the coal washing plant that was next to the Lord Clyde used the building as their office i think it was the lads who set up CAPNAC LEISURE
there was two fish houses
the first one opposite the Clyde was W Cook they only ever produced kippers
the other one was Pattisons they sold anything from the sea and produced kippers i think a pools manager was a customer rolfl rolfl
