I think this is shocking that they should be offered this potential deal at all £100m to go straight to premiership this will never happen but what sort of message does this send to clubs like pools. If they want to come into our league they should start at the bottom.

but what about if a club from the football league say Pools got taken over by an owner they couldnt just pay £100m to go straight into top flight, and for that matter I wouldnt want us to as you could probably get there a lot cheaper by investing in the club, however it sends the wrong message out and makes a mockery of our league system.

its the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard. Only one team from the football league could be promoted? So what are we meant to aim for?. It will destroy football.

mate i see one of the richest clubs in the world dominating the english premier division. In no way does that affect pools in any way. Allowing scottish clubs to jump in where ever they want, and stopping more than one football league team from getting what they deserve (promotion) is just crazy. Whatever your problem with man utd, this is not being instigated by them, and it is much worse than anything that they have ever instigated (that im aware of anyway).

I think you find it does by them being a cancer to the game sitting on their high horse quaffing all the money in the english game like a big whale swallowing up krill, with the seagulls and other small fish (like pools) fighting for the scraps

case in point parachute payments that keep the rich, rich and the poor, poor feeding a yo-yo culture of about 6-7 clubs one of which will soon to be the boro.

isnt that just life in general though? The best looking men get the most attention from women. The most educated people get the best paid jobs and the most attractive football teams get the best players and the most fans.

Are you saying that phil taylor should give some of his money to the shit darts players because they arent very good? or more that the shit darts players should be angry at him because he earns the most money and has the best sponsorships because he is the best?

Mr mad john. Put it down to naivety then because im not particularly interested in the politics of football at the highest level unless it affects me directly. However i am extremely intrigued at your hatred of them and what they represent. So i will definately have a read into it.

But it does as you support pools mate, I am not saying that phil taylor should give his money away as its his prize money and won it in events, the fact of the matter is the other money if football we are talking about.

I think america's NFL has the right idea to sort of keep their, all be it franchised league (i think), a bit of a fair playing field with the team ending the season bottom getting the first choice of the college draft and the ones that win the superbowl the last. I know this cant be implemented in football as we dont have that sort of system but its just a thought.

The point is that Football is already in a state where any idea of it being a meritocracy has long been taken over by how much money is available. To an extent it was always the case and has been since we've had a professional game - but now it's worse than ever. Go back 25-30 years, and you had the situation that a good enough manager and a bit of wisely-spent money could get you close to the League Title or even win it - Ipswich, Derby, Notts Forest, Aston Villa for example, arguably Everton in the 80s too. The Premier League has been won by what, 4 clubs in its entire history - coming up to 17 seasons - and the only team not from the "Big 4" to do it was Blackburn, courtesy of Jack Walker's millions. The only teams looking like they might break in are Man City (backers: the richest family in the world), and Aston Villa (Rich American owner and a very good manager). Everyone else is basically there to stay there and pick up huge amounts of cash, while every season the money filtering down the leagues comes under more pressure because transfers to top teams from sides outside the Prem are becoming rarer by the year.

The Prem has always wanted to pull the ladder up behind it, and there are more ways of doing that than just restricting promotion - most seasons the favourites to go down are the teams that have just come down, and not many now service more than a couple of seasons unless there are some deep pockets about or a lot of luck. Prem 2 would sit well with the clubs like Stoke, West Brom, Palace etc who might get more money by being in it than yo-yoing between Prem and Champ.

The Prem was formed by the big teams in order to give them a bigger income, nothing more, nothing less. By breaking away from the FL they could demand more of the TV money, more of the sponsorship, more of any money coming in basically. And because there's a number of clubs who would prefer not to fall off the gravy train, they're trying to come up with a way to stop it happening. I won't be surprised if the Prem decides to do a Ground Grading to decide if you should be allowed up - it happens throughout Non-League, so why not? After all, the argument runs, you need to host some big teams, so a min 20K all seater... it's not impossible, after all promotion to the Champ already starts a clock ticking on making your ground all-seater. That limits promotion currently to 8 sides currently outside the Champ...

The big clubs did the dirty on clubs like ours years ago, and they'd like nothing more than for all of us to go away - Peter Kenyon said as much a few years ago. In their eyes, maybe we'd then get on with supporting "proper" teams - like theirs for example. Now it seems the Premiership middle-rankers want to do the same....

right, now we are getting somewhere. i was only 12 or something when the premier league was formed hence my lack of knowledge on the hatred towards it. Im gonna have a right good read up on it. Anyone point me in the direction where i can read some literature on it?

I think if they do go through with this Old Firm deal the supporters of the remaining Scottish clubs ought to be very happy indeed; after all, they'll have something I can only dream of: the big two teams FOOKING RIGHT OFF.

I'll put it to you another way Mister B..... if Pools ever disappeared because of the situation surrounding these greedy clubs getting to the point where we have no opponents, because they've all folded - (and nobody would want Hartlepool in any premier league would they?......)
would you continue to watch football and cheer for Man United on telly?
This question determines the true love of your club for me.

Money, money, money .... the public have it and they want it, not off us you understand, but the gormless masses in their replica shirts sat in the pub cheering on 'their teams'... the whole thing is about wringing every penny out of the gormless ones ......they have created a whole new breed of battery fans who are there to be milked... the sort of fans who may have been your floating fans at Pools, but are brainwashed by the Premiership to look down on the likes of Pools and associate with a 'big club' .... they even want the money that at one time would have went through the lower clubs turnstiles. They can't do it through their gates as it would be physically impossible, but they can do it by clever marketing of their product. THEY CAN'T GET YOU TO THEIR GROUND BUT THEY CAN SEEL YOU THE SHIRT, THE DUVET ETC, ETC ETC.

Interesting piece on the Legends last night about Sunderland fans who had already booked their flights to away game (Portsmouth I think) & then the Premiership/Sky/Setanta go and change the match day. Now the fans can't get ticket refunds, & Niall Quinn trying to intervene on their behalf.
Bottom line is that Sky/Setanta/Premiership are more interested in taking cash from armchair supporters than looking after the paying fans who actually attend games

Nice one. Now I am convinced you are on a wind-up. Must admit you had me going for a while.

I think what he's getting at is, the fact that only one will be allowed to go up to premiership 2 making the League's we play in now the new Non-League. refred
