How long ago did the shops start being open on Good Friday? I'm thinking its about the mid seventies... I think we've lost someting in our country by allowing this to happen. Easter used to be a the first big holiday now Good Friday is like any other day. They'll be moaning like hell about the shops being shut on Sunday as well but how nice it would be if they where shut every Sunday surely it can't be too hard to buy an extra couple of pints of milk and loaves of bread on a Saturday..Maybe families would do something together like we used to do when we where kids rather than go out fookin shopping again.. rage

Either they should have the shops open all day on Sundays or not at all. 10 till 4 is neither here nor there really.

I think they should open every day and give their stuff away for free and be jolly well glad we take it off their hands!!

Tell that to the staff who have to work on Sundays. They wouldn't like to work all day.

What I find strange is the baths are closed tomorrow....Good Friday....but open on Easter Sunday!!!! stpid confised

But back to main point....I think it was a lot later than the 70's that shops opened on a Good Friday....I'd say it was more late 80's!!!! confised

Anyone remember 1/2 Day closing as well .... believe it on not the shops used to close for half a day during the week at one o'clock.. It was a Wednesday if remember correctly!! I used to have to queue outside of Gillens to get Mail at 4 o'clock to for me Dad ... (when it wasn't just a rebadged Scumderland Echo but a proper local paper but thats another story).....

pubs used to open at 11 and close at 3,on a night they opened at 5.30 and close at 10.30,and the only place you could buy drink was at an offdoor or a pub

Why the foook should every place be shut? sctatchinghead

Easter is a shit holiday, when the weather is still crap.

I take it you all dont mind theme parks being open, or the many other thousands of visitor attractions that most people will go to. Or pubs.

So if its alright for them to be open, why not shops?

And isnt Easter sunday the most boring day of the year? The kikds havent even got a match that day. banghead banghead

But to make up for it, they are playing on tuesday night. banghead banghead

How fookin stupid is that?

Easter should be moved to late May or early june.

And heres something else......how many of you daft fookers wont be eating meat today? rolfl

I will be thinking of you all later as a tuck into my large Doner.

That's where Sheffield Wednesday get their name from. It was a league set up by shopworkers that got Wednesday afternoons off and couldn't play on Saturdays because they had to work.

Tell you what, I didn't even realise it was Good Friday today when I was tucking into my DELICIOUS F&Cs.
I'm not going to regurgitate them just to prove a point like.
