I've said more than once that the problem on Saturday was the distribution from our centre backs and the performance of our two central midfield players. On three or four occasions in the first twenty minutes Collins or Nelson just banged it long, what good is that into Porter and Nardiello? For me Clark and Liddle had to take more responsibility, come short for the ball or just have a fooking word with Collins and Nelson! Liddle especially needed to step up to the plate and boss a game, whoever he plays with I'd always regard him as the second midfielder. He's got more ability than that. Our midfield was non existent.

personally, and this is where I'm going to be controversial - Liddle is not good enough to play midfield at League One level.
His performances over two seasons prove this.
He is a League Two midfielder in my opinion.

Liddle is a hard worker and is a good player to have in our squad. But, as people have said, he offers little creatively. It is no coincidence that he had his best spell at the club as a defender - I think that is where his future lies.

If he is played in central midfield along with Ben Clark we not only lack mobility but also limit our options going forward. My suggestion would be to move Liddle to left back and give the lad Rowell a chance in midfield, at least until Jones returns.

many people have been suggesting that for a while, but the people who run the show at the club are quite clearly happy with playing people out of position - causing us to concede goals when the opposition have the ball, and keeping creative specialist midfielders such as Sweeney and Rowell out of the midfield areas altogether.
If they're happy with that, there's nothing we can do.
I also agree Liddle is better suited to defending because he works hard - but if he's a League One central midfielder then so am I!!!
This is exactly why a new manager with his own opinions of people would be better for us - he would have no preconceptions of what people have done before and would see where people should really be playing, and who should be playing and who should be on the fringes.
Too much favouritism and too much influence from people behind the scenes who should really do what's best for the football team, not for their favourites.
