Let's be fair on Wilson and IOR. Wilson has done some good things and made some mistakes.

I think it's seems right that we give him credit for both in equal measure.

Good things
1.In Wilson's first season we played some of the best football I've ever seen us play.
2.This season we've made some brilliant comebacks and went through a period of scoring lots of goals. He must have given the players some right bollockings to get the players to peform after lacklustre first halfs.
3.He's made some pretty good signings in Gary Liddle, Andy Monkhouse and Ritchie Jones.
4.He's secured us mid table safety on a much smaller budget than other clubs in our division.
5.Overall he had a decent winning record compared to previous Hartlepool managers.

Bad Things
1.He seemed to have his favourites. I remember when Porter was playing well but was never starting matches. At Northampton we spent the entire match chanting for Porter to come on. The match was in desperate need of a spark Porter could have provided. He was brought on in stoppage time.
2.Under Wilson the players, especially the defence, have often chosen the easy option of lumping the ball up to Barker or Kyle and this has limited our midfield as it becomes bypassed. We've played much better football without a target man.
3.He's played players out of position.
4.The defence has been a shambles for the last two seasons and the goalkeepers have struggled to be consistent.
5.He has failed to bring through the youth as much as managers such as Cooper did.

When has he secured us mid-table safety?

We were 5 points off relegation last season and finished 15th.

And this budget thing is a cop-out. Neale Cooper got us to 2 consecutive play-off campaigns in L1 despite having nowhere near the biggest budget in the division.

A great  example of his management was the fact that he bigged James Brown up in the summer, saying he was going to put him up-front (even though that is his position and the fans had been saying it for 18 month  ) so he puts him up-front and he does very well, knocking in a few goals, plenty of assists and forming a very promissing partnership with Joel Porter......and then he brings in Kevin Kyle and pushes Brown back out onto the wing stpid Not only upsetting the balance of the team but bringing about a big downturn in JB's form.

He's a very poor man-manager IMO.

The Good
1 - 29 game unbeaten run
2 - Walloped the Doils on our first visit to lampland & pretty much killed their season
3 - 4 goals away at Orient
4 - Top of league one (even if it was only after one game)
5 - Knocked a premier side out of the carling cup.

The bad

1 - Godwin Antwi in place of Ben Clark
2 - 1 point from our last 9 makes Walsall champions
3 - Failed to beat Morecambe in our best ever chance to get to Wembley
4 - Replaced one of our best ever keepers with 2 of our worst
5 - Failed to score at home against one of the worst Doils sides Ive ever seen

Just playing devil's advocate again, could that be down to something other than Danny Wilson? Liddle was superb in 2006/07 but less effective since then. Could he have found the step up from League Two to League One a difficult one? He wouldn't be the only one. Richard Barker, Micky Nelson, Andy Monkhouse and Ritchie Humphreys all had excellent seasons at the lower level, and none of them have hit the same consistent heights since promotion.

Maybe you have a point there, although his sudden reluctance to go forward with the ball must surely be a coaching/management issue

Mickey Nelson already has form at this level a'n' he. He was in many people's team of the season in 2003/2004.
