I am open to criticism and will never shy away from it, and I have heard the debates and the condemnation all week without responding.

For those of you who don't know me personally, and have labelled me as prehistoric, a caveman and a bigot, can I ask you this? Is having traditional values sexist? Values such as holding a door open for a woman, helping a mother off a train with a pushchair or up an escalator, worrying what time my daughter will be home and whether she is escorted, buying flowers and paying for dinner etc.. If all of these are sexist and prehistoric then I am guilty of them all.

I know he's not the most popular person to manage us but I agree with him here. I hope he keeps speaking up.

What he's trying to say that we should stick to traditional values, and once of those is having male refs for male matches. He's not the best speaker in the world and he did stuff up when he made out women were incapable of making correct decisions.

BUT, I believe that male matches should be refereed by males and there's enough female refs for women matches to be refereed by women.

That's cringing, it really is. Is he really trying to paint his critics as the sort of people who would not help someone with a pushchair? Nice sidestep. Next he'll be saying that it was someone else entirely who wrote off half of the species as incapable of doing a job just because of one decision that he didn't agree with!

Its is gringeworthy, if he had said he disagrees with the 'fastracking' of female linespersons he may have had a point

Its like the dark ages for some people, does he think female doctors should have a place in society, for example?

All I want is competence. If someone makes consistently good decisions I don't care if that person is male, female, or bewildering. If you gave me a choice of a female lino who got everything right or some of the chumps we get saddled with I know who I'd prefer. And the same goes if you gave me the choice of a competent female referee or Mike Pike.

I don't think insisting on having exclusively male officials has anything to do with wishing to maintain traditional values, but even is that really was Newell's motivation ( ) it's a flawed idea. If tradition was the deciding factor we would never make progress in anything.

officials are going to make mistakes whether they are male or female and mistakes will always be made in the game. I'm with Newell on this one, football should be exclusivly male, male players, male refs and managers etc. Women want to be in at everything these days, is nothing sacres?

Its just an opinion I don't think it should be allowed but the rules aren't going to change. I don't think this is as big of an issue as what people are making it and you might find that a lot of fotball fans think that introducing female officials is a line that shouldn't have been crossed......
