Does anyone actually still go tatie picking or is it all machines now?
What are your memories of the ancient art of tatie picking?

If you were a jammy tw@t you could get a job on the trailer, half the work for twice the pay.
Me owld man went with us a few times and was a tally man ........now that was a bobbies job.

I can remember that the wages varied quite a lot. You got £4 a day Brown's farm in Hart but the bloke was a complete slave driver and made sure very last spud was picked. I can remember walking home from there in agony.

You got £2 a day at Darling's farm up behind High Tunstall but it was so much easier - I always wondered why he grew spuds because he didn't seem to get that much of a yield. Maybe it was some sort of subsidy thing?

Never did any meself but can confirm my immediate entourage always called it taty picking week.

Our school was a lot posher however and called it Blackberry Week. Now "Bramble Week" I might have been able to accept at a push but Blackberry Week FFS!

A milk round payed on average 6 quid a week.. two lads jumping out of a van non stop from 6.00 till 7.30 ...Only lasted a week it was freezing :grin:
