Do PS3's allow you to play games online for free, Unlike the X-Box where you have to buy a suscription?

The 80Gb PS3 is on sale now for £300 - wonder if the 40Gb (on sale about £260 now, I think) ones will go down in price further. Think a 160Gb version will be on sale soon...
