Rather than paying through the nose dialling 0870/0871 numbers which are anywhere up to 20p a minute, this website gives you normal landline numbers instead.

It is a useful website. I've used it a few times, but apparently a few companies have cottoned on to this website and have set up their landlines that have proper geographical codes so that they don't accept calls from UK numbers thus trying to force you through their premium rate numbers.
So, If you struggle to get through on their geographical numbers, try again but put 141 in first to withhold your number so their system can't recognise that you are in the UK.
No doubt it won't be long before they bar witheld numbers too to avoid this way round their premium rates.

A lot of companies have an international number for when your abroad and cant dial 0870 numbers, when calling my credit card vendor i use the +44 1234 number so i dont get charged through the roof on my mobile. It jujst comes off my free mins. nice

How then Damp Lad... what you should be saying is get Skype and then when these bastads ((c)ADG) give you the international number it only costs a few pence.
