I guess by the responses we havent actually signed anyone then.

Oh, and who was being negative?

So, I take it the team for saturday will be something like this:

Barrett
McCunnie
Nelson
Collins
Humphreys
Sweeney
Liddle
Boland
Monkhouse
Brown
Porter

Is that about right?

I cant see Power getting a game, though he should. But he wont. stpid

He will probabaly play Robson for Monky too.

The global credit crunch has hit at Victoria Park.

What he needs to do is tell chairman Ken that he needs new players in time for the Tall Ships race coming to Town. In fact perhaps we could get the council to fund a new right back in time for the Tall Ships race.

I can see Foley starting, and quite honestly after last Saturday the only thing you could criticise Wilson for would be leaving him out.

For the record, I don't believe Wilson has said the squad is good enough now, so this change of opinion would appear to be in the same category of imagined fact as "we could have had Boydy for nowt".

Rotherham are a bottom division club it's true, but we ourselves were only nine places off being a bottom division club too. Rotherham would have been challenging for a play-off place and might well have got if if they hadn't been deducted ten points three-quarters of the way through the season.
And last Saturday we were on their patch, and they were playing their more-or-less finalised side and made very few subs. So that tells me they were serious opposition.

Now you tell me me which other right winger has impressed in pre-season and I might stand corrected. But against the Millers for a full 90 minutes Foley was a thorn in their side, both on the wing and in the middle. They were sick of the sight of him by the end of the match. And he set up all three goals so no one can say there was no end product.
Is Wilson supposed to ignore all that?
I'm not a Foley advocate but some people have decided in their minds that he is incapable of playing a good game.
Sorry, not me; I can't deny what my eyes saw. Wilson would have to be crackers not to play him.

Anyway, whoever he plays, let's hope they get the praise or criticism they deserve (preferably praise!).

I'll tell you what, I'd rather see unpopular Foley give a dazzling display than a more popular player give an average one. But even if he did people would no doubt say Wilson was just papering over the cracks because we don't have a real right winger.

P.S., Power was decidedly low-key against a real team.

Have we ever had Robson on left wing and Foley on right wing together before?

Why is that?

because boydy was no more than a squad player for 4 years before he suddenly became god.

and i remember A LOT of people who wanted him released or selling to Boston when he was loaned out.

i'm not contemplating Foley or Robson EVER becoming as good as Boyd, but the truth is some footballers take more time to 'come good' than others.

And 2 or 3 year ago people were raving about this young kid in the youths & reserves called Foley who was ripping defences apart and scoring goals for fun. Yes his height and weight are a major problem, but given a year or two he will learn how to become stronger and more influential. He deserves a chance, simple as.

I am not a Foley fan but I agree with Richard about his performance against Rotherham. I know one swallow doesn't make a summer and I thought Rotherham were dire but the kid did play well. Whether he can repeat that performance against league one teams this season is open to question because he certainly hasn't done so up to now.
We shall see.
