Saw Rae play a couple of times for the reserves, seemed like quite a strong lad and a good prospect, surprised he didn't seem to get his chance, even more surprised he was released.

Wilson has no interest in the youth players unless they are "suck-ups".

And he tells lies to them.

Regularly, about promising them a chance and stuff.

Rae was treated terribly by Wilson and not just in terms of never even getting a chance in the first team.

something strikes me he is a man who will go out of his way to prove a point, no mater what it is, and no matter whether it is the right thing to do or not.
People who can accept they are fallible and make mistakes, then attempt to rectify the situation (in the manner of Neale Cooper) get a lot more respect from the fans.

proven at res level yes only because the obnoxious bounder who is in charge

i will not refer to him as manager.....did not give the player a chance i am still mystified
how the likes of foley boland robson and mckay are still here .

laughed last night when i read local newssheet and he was bigging up brown
is this a ploy to sell him or a smokescreen to
deflect the non arrival of any decent players that have been promised

in my opinion the club will go nowhere under the present regime

wilson out rage rage rage rage

How old was Rae when Cooper left?

Or are you advocating that if somebody doesn't look ready for the first team when they're 16 or 17 then they'll never make it?

And Scotty was a full on rarf.

Of course I'm not advocating that. Don't be daft.

Rae was 17½. Certainly old enough for a manager who had given chances to other kids. Scott was indeed a rarf, but one who picked Jones, Turnbull, Maidens, Craddock, Brackstone etc. Stephenson also picked youngsters. None of them thought enough of Micky Rae to even put him on the bench for the first team.

Just out of interest, how many times did you watch Rae play, Mr R?

I've not seen him play. I've heard about him from folk such as your goodself and others who watch reserves and youth games.

My understanding was that Rae was more of a target man than a speed merchant. If that is the case then I would expect him to be 20-odd before even thinking about putting him in the first team as his strength against youth players would not be the same against seasoned pros.

I just find it difficult to understand him not getting so much of a sniff of a chance (even from the bench) when pretty much all of the people who saw him play said how promising he looked.

As with other players we have released over the years, such as Jermaine Easter for example.

If they are good enough they will make there way to the top.

If Rae makes it then it proves a big mistake on our part, if not then it's justified.

A second division Greek team have offered him a trial so good luck to him. Saying that, I was out with him on saturday and he seemed totally disillusioned with football so who knows? Micky liked a drink but no more than some of the others, as Yubep rightly points out.

Fair enough, very often I venture down our town. I seem to remember being told one reserve player was always down there hammered, musnt have been him. Just trying to think of reasons he was released as everyone who saw him was impressed.
