I was saying the same last night, the options of decent places to go to are dwindeling every week.

Nexus was rammed last night, no jax or esco to go too, everyone in the world in there.

Is Jax closed down?

Fuck.

That place was always rammed when I went, it was a really good bar too - the main supplier was Cameron's I think (could get cheap Scorpion lager, very underrated).

Escobar too though... the only bar left that I genuinely like now is Idols, but that'll definitely go at some point. It's the only place that plays consistently decent music left

While this is affecting the clubs, I don't think it has much effect on places like Jax. Jax had a very young crowd and I doubt any of their customers would stop in because they can't smoke or have a crate because it's cheaper.

I was surprised Jax survived as long as it did, they were surviving off one night a week and I can imagine their rent would be quite high given the location. Given you had to pay 3 quid to get in too, this would put a lot of people off who might pop in for a couple on the way to Church Street.

It's never been the same since they stopped the pre-match strippers anyway!

Totally agree with you there.

My route on a night used to be very varied, loads of different places, now as time has gone by its changed.

On Saturday it was simply...

King Johns
Lloyds
Idols
Nexus

The highlight of the night was the chicken pizza at the end of it.

Your right, i had this with my mate the other day, i said yer they may have been rammed on a saturday, but one night a week surely isn't enough to run a place at a profit.

When jax first went all indie it was busy thursday, friday and saturday, decent prices on entry and drinks. Bands on every week too.

Then like all places they get greedy, entry price goes up, drinks prices go up, no longer any bands on.

For me thats the real reason it shut

I begrudge paying anywhere money to get in, especially somewhere like Jax which was never the nicest pub in the country! The missus however has just got back from Ibiza, one night she paid 35 quid to get into a club. I'd sooner go home to bed than pay 35 quid to watch some pilled up 17 year olds gurn their faces off!

You'd of had to pry the £35 out of my cold dead hands before you see me paying that in a club!

She should have got her pensioners card out for discount!

The town's been rubbish for nights out for ages, everything is geared towards the chavs with the theme pubs. Sad thing is that's where the money is these days, I used to make the effort to get down at least once a month, now I just either go to the local or go to Sunderland instead.

Farking hell! 35 rappers just to get into somewhere hot and sticky and very noisy, just so you can't get to the bar 'cos it's so full? I'm old I know, but I wouldn't have done that if I was 21!!!!
