Location: Probably in The Mowbray Pub, like.
If any of you are local to the Mowbray Pub (formerly the Warrior and the Vineyard) you'll probably already know about the very sad passing of John Madge on Monday night after a short battle against cancer of the spine.

John was already making a full recovery from throat cancer when he was diagnosed less than a few months back, and it came as a terrible shock to us all.

John was an amazing gentlemen, always ready with a smile and a good-natured bit of banter.

He was quiz-master at the pub for as long as I can remember and I loved the guy dearly - anyone who came into contact with him could not fail to...

I'd like to send my best wishes to any of his family who may read this and let them know just how loved John was by our small, yet close-knit community down here on the Fens-Manor.

God Bless mate, sleep tight.

If any of you remember bands called "The Toffees" and "The Comets" who hailed from Pools then you'll probably know all about John too...

I didn't know John Madge but was interested in the link about the Toffees as they played at my sisters 21st birthday party way back in 1965 at the blind school hall in Lauder St. I was even more surprised to see a photo of her sat on Eddie leightons knee, never seen that picture before.

I was once a memeber of teh football team in the Mowbray and practically lived in there on a weekend. Before I got with the missus I dare say any night there was football on.

John was always polite and once you started you couldnt shut him up. He had some good banter on him. He will be sadly missed from the Mowbray, and the place has just lost the biggest smile and ray of sunlight

Good night John

Sad news indeed,John was a grand feller.I knocked about with his son for several years & you always got a laugh out of John when you called round.
