And Kentish, you reckon high oil prices will affect a company whose job it is to recover oil? If anything, they're in demand more now than ever...

The question is, what happens when the oil runs out ?

We'll all have parties on the tube, be fanatical to the point of scariness about Eurovision, and drink turpentine whilst posting on message boards.

That's if we can afford it with this credit crunch.

Where's the motivation to recover oil anyway now Gretna have folded, what's the point in going on? We're all doomed.

*Starts cooing like a pigeon*

What was the point of that ?

More importantly, what's turpentine ?

Either Kentish is now doing this on purpose, or he's starting to outstay his welcome.

Crest was actually owned by the bloke who also owned Gretna. A sad day when Crest closed I know a number of people who worked there and of course HUDSA used to get their T-Shirts and other goods from them.

When the oil runs out, IOR'll be long gone anyway. You think IOR are gonna own HUFC for the next 100 years?

No wonder The Premier league clubs broke away - the football family!

Haven't you realised yet that the relevance of the Premier League to clubs in our division is about the same as a bicycle to a fish? And that it's getting worse?

Consider the situation pre-Prem. Not only was a larger proportion of the TV money shared around, clubs at the top often went shopping in the lower leagues for players, which helped keep some clubs going and helped as well fans of lower league clubs feel a bit more connected to what was on Match of the Day. I'm sure Scunny fans felt a bit of pride seeing Keegan become the best-known player in English football for example, or Lee Sharpe for Torquay fans, or David Speedie [spit] for Darlo fans, or John McGovern for us, or Trevor Steven for Burnley, or Tow Law for Chris Waddle....

Instead virtually the entire Prem goes for foreign stars, any young player is either hoovered up by the top clubs academies or is signed in the late teens for relatively small fees, and we have the situation where when the in theory English sides contesting the Champions League final don't have enough players in their squads for the game to field an England XI between them, Arsenal have more foreign players than English in their reserves never mind the first team, and suggestions from FIFA that it might be better to have more home-grown players in teams are met with howls of protest. The money juggernaut that is the Prem has even considered playing a set of games abroad in a shameless attempt to pull in even more money, possibly as they've realised that the businesses that they now run need to expand overseas as the UK market is already close to saturation point. The top clubs are owned by overseas interests, or are being eyed by them.

The Premier League Clubs didn't break away from the Football Family for football reasons, they broke it to see if they could squeeze more money out of it. Listen to the likes of Peter Kenyon and you'll see that there's nothing some of them would like better than to pull the ladder up behind them. You'd just better hope that The Bates Motel Roadshow can get you back there before they do.....

I've probably missed the boat now but my point was simply that big clubs care little for small clubs and small clubs care even less for the minnows and yet we (the small clubs) somehow expect the big clubs to behave like proper socialists and give us what they see as their brass. I think they should but then again I love progressive taxation, comprehensive schools, the NHS and 'public service'.

If that day ever comes it will indeed be a moment to savour.

But Gretna's fans are just like the rest of us surely. Despite the idiocy of one man they (the hardcore at least) will be suffering just now. I think it's called 'living the dream' from experience.

Suffering? They've only been in the Scottish system for six years. Before that they were a nonedescript English Northern Premier League side. How much of a base of suffering fans does that give them? What about the fans of other clubs who have been trying for decades to get Scottish league football only to find the door locked and bolted? Doesn't their suffering count?

Surely if there are that many fans grieving for Gretna, setting up a new club that will get back into the Northern Premier League (their natural level) should be a doddle.
Neither Scottish nor English football owes them owt.

all I know is - I HATE Brighton. Cheating, plotting, scheming, cheating twats. If there's any justice of next season then both Pools and Hereford take 6 points off them.

I'm all for that as long as we take 6 points off Hereford too!
