And I think Rea is one of the most seriously underrated guitarists around, funny thing opinions isn't it!

Knopfler was quality last week as well, it all just seemed so effortless to him, cracking gig.

Had this argument 100 times.
Great guitar players are not those who dazzle you by playing twenty minute guitar solos or bashing out 38 descending Lydian scales in 5 seconds.
Great guitar players are the ones who know how to reach down into their guitar and find THAT note, the one played at exactly the right time with exactly the right build up and exactly the right feeling, the one that makes you cream your pants.

Knopfler finds notes like that, though I wouldn't say he's the best at it.

Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, .....they just wash over me I'm afraid.

Todd Rundgren's a GREAT Guitarist, but there ain't many 20 minute solos in his repertoire.

I prefer songs to solos.

ok fook the tommy Emanuel link (i still think its class)
Anyhow have to agree, Steve vai, joe satriani, great guitarists, but i do have to go for the eject button after two songs !! as for Todd, well an all time favourite of mine, but maybe he has had his day? his last tour was apparantly bollox, and a couple of mates went to see him and where very dissapointed :uhoh: i saw him in 1979 supporting Led Zep at knebworth and he was brill, (chaz and dave where also on the bill sctatchinghead )

Stevie Ray Vaughan is a quality guitarist as is Andy Powell of the very underayed Wishbone Ash.

Thanks for the Devo clip, it was one of the best gigs i have ever seen, Devo at Southampton.

The very guitarist I was hinting at when I mentioned ultra-fast descending Lydians.

Yeah, but, haven't you noticed? Salty was already a folk fan who doesn't rate any folk musicians. Now he's revealed as a musician who doesn't in fact like musical instruments

In our house at this very moment there is a copy of his "Bert Weedon's Play in a Day" on the front is a picture of Bert and his sickly smile.
