I wouldn't pay more than a fiver for a game like that. However the FA's and Wembley Stadium's over-inflated valuation (not to mention opinion of what they think they are and what the England team is) means that their prices are at least five to ten times what I would be prepared to pay.
And they wonder why people stop forking out for such crap. There are a fair few "essentials" in life I can barely afford right now.
Somebody like me paying to watch England at Wembley at those prices is a rather fanciful notion to put it mildly

Its not just the inflated prices that put me off, it is mainly the fact that I struggle to be able to identify with the England players anymore, maybe its an age thing sctatchinghead

I find the idea of shouting for "Becks", "Lamps", etc totally abhorrent

Well don't hold your breath waiting for Bobby Moore to come back.

Come to think, I still haven't forgiven him for that goal he let Poland score.

If you're on about the game at Wembley in October '73 then Moore never actually played. Norman 'Bite Your Legs' Hunter gave the ball away on the half way line if I remember correctly sctatchinghead

I was at that match, one of two England Internationals I've been to. How Tomasewski kept us out, apart from Alan Clarke's penalty, I will never know. I couldn't speak for 2 days afterwards, shouted myself hoarse. I had to keep moving across my seat to be able to see everything, because there was a big post right in front of me. People might not like the new Wembley, but the old one was a sh*thole, and that was true even 35 years ago.

I think the Poland match that Frodraff was thinking off was this one, mentioned In the interview with Jan the Man.

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/foot ... 10415.html

"He had just established himself in Kazimierz Gorski's Poland team when England came to Chorzow in June 1973 for a World Cup qualifier which was a personal disaster for Bobby Moore. England's World Cup-winning captain deflected Robert Gadocha's early free-kick past Peter Shilton. Even more shocking was his error in the second half, when he was dispossessed on the halfway line by Wlodzimierz Lubanski, who raced away to score the goal that secured a 2-0 victory.

"England were too complacent," Tomaszewski said. "They were convinced they were going to win. We waited patiently and scored with our only two real chances. We set out simply to keep the ball for as long as possible. We weren't thinking about scoring.

"The second goal was down to Jacek Gmoch, our assistant coach, who analysed the opposition. He'd pinpointed a weakness in Moore's game. The defenders all passed the ball to Moore and left it to him to play it forward, but he tended to dwell on the ball. Gmoch told our forwards to expect this and to put immediate pressure on Moore. Lubanski had anticipated the pass to Moore and was on top of him straight away."

Ah ok, most people (including me obviously) tend to just remember the second game against Poland at Wembley when Jan "He's a Clown" Tomachewski performed so well. The earlier game in Poland that you describe seems to have heralded the demise of Bobby Moore, and ultimately Alf Ramsey as well.

Sad times for England - some things never change do they?
