An amazing feat and very commendable and leads to someinteresting questions.

Have you never been injured?

How far do you run?

Do you run at the same time every day?

Are you teetotal? If not, have you had a really big drinking session in the last 500 days?

What made you start this?

Do you have an obsessive-compulsive disorder (a serious question)?

A few niggling injuries but nothing too serious [touch wood] right hip and hamstring giving me a bit gyp at the moment.

Distances vary from between 2 mile and 10 miles. My minimum run to qualify for my daily run is 15 minutes, must be outdoors, have my running kit on and raise a sweat....treadmill training in the gym does not qualify

Do I run same time every day? No not necessaryily, although majority of runs are at lunchtime. Earliest run 6am and latest run 11:30pm. Difficulty is finding the time to fit the run in around work, family, meals and Pools etc. I keep it fresh from boredom by mixing types of terrain and type of training, i.e. hills, speed sessions, distance, intervals etc

No I'm definitley not teetotal although I don't drink as much as I used to. The worst week was my son-in-laws stag week in Benalmadena, but still managed to struggle around in the heat with serious hangovers...ouch! (not sensible and not to be recommended)

What made me start it? My run hero... Ron Hill, who is barking mad and he hasn't missed a day since December 20th 1964, don't think I'll ever emulate that feat/madness.

Errrr I don't think I do suffer OCD although Lady Smythe may say otherwise. I do become edgey if I haven't managed to get my run in at the time I intend to, or if the day is drawing to a close and I haven't managed to get out for my run i.e the 11:30pm run.

Silaird are you thinking of starting a similar running streak?

Excellent. Many thanks for your answers.

I play a wide variety of sports, some of which can leave me drained and aching for a day or two, and because of that, the thought of running everyday would normally seem beyond me but having a get-out of only running 15 minutes on those days certainly makes it manageable.

You've certainly inspired me and, do you know what, I'm going to start running today.

Thanks, you're a top man.

My recovery days or tapering days before a race are gentle 15-20 minute run on the flat and on grass.

Another tip although I don't mind running on my own, running with a partner (in my case with Archie The Greyhound) or within a group does help!

Good to hear, go for it and good luck!

Never really been a one to suffer from weight problems and never really
get hung up about it. When I started this running streak 01/01/2007
I was 13 clem, I'm now 11st 5lb. When I ran the 1998 Manchester Marathon
with real serious training and a punishing 12 week schedule, I was 10½

I did a run last night which took 19 minutes and 52 seconds. The front of my lower legs were screaming after 5 minutes so I was quite chuffed to have finished it.

I think I'm probably starting from a lower base level of fitness than when you started, Lord, so I'm going to keep doing the loop I did last night until I knock a minute or two off my time before going on to longer distances.

You've started a monster.

Firstly make sure that you have good running shoes, don't be going for the gimmicky brands,
Something like Asics. It's worth visiting a decent running shop, I go to Start Fitness (Durham)
the lad in there is spot on and doesn't try to rip folk off and (Ritchie Humphreys is a regular, so
if it's good enough for Pools' Player Of The Century it's good enough for me!)

Also don't get hung up about running fast times or mileage at this stage, steady away get
some fitness under your belt first!

Good luck and keep at it!

But, seriously, me, run? You must have misunderstood something....

The other thing is, yesterday I got on a bus at the bus station and asked for the Pot of Glass. In that short time between getting on and getting off the bus, the pub had changed its name to 'The Lodge'. confised Frightening......

Well, that had already been demolished by the time we moved here so I know about it only by hearsay.

I've just realised what you meant, about stalking (!). The other time, in Hartlepool, my other half was also doing the run, which was why I was there. He's off to do the Manchester one at the w.e. too, tho it has to be said he's not quite as keen about running as you sound to be

How did your other half do in the Hartlepool run?
Good luck in The Manchester run at w/e. I'm in run action

I did 19:22 tonight. I wasn't trying to beat last night's time - I didn't look at my watch until I got home. As a whole, it hurt less than last night although the front lower left leg was screaming again by the time I got home.

I've got a very light pair of New Balance running trainers but I may invest in some Asics - do they still have them with the gel?

Do you do other sports? If so, do you still do a run on the same day?

some fitness under your belt first!

Good luck and keep at it!

Well done but take care of that leg though, is it the calf (mooo) or the shin. Check the link below for Asics shoes.

Occasional 5-a-side, the odd game of squash, cycle, swim and yeah of course I'll still do a run the same day, hence the continuous running streak!

Does he fancy the Race The Beamish Tram Run, Sunday June 29th?

I'll tell him about that, it looks like his sort of thing.
Aye, if I see you I'll give you an encouraging cheer...but to be honest I don't usually go to watch unless I'm doing something else in the area at the same time. Except for the Great North Run

The pain's in the muscle on the front left side of my left shin - it gets very tight. I was really hurting this morning but am loosening up a bit now.

It was a stupid question from me regarding whether you still ran when you did other sports but there was some logic behind it - I'm playing golf later today and I was looking for a get-out

I think tonight's run may well smart a bit sadx

The length of the course I run is 3.125km (1.94 miles).

So 6:12 per km (9:58 per mile)

How does that compare with the Lord?
