Danny

So,what we have to look at is who is going to be coming in and who is going to be leaving in the summer. There will be changes NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. Any club who wants to be succesful and wants to compete at this level HAS TO strengthen where necessary and I would like to think we will be competing with those clubs in the summer months.

Ken

We have a good set of players already at the club so any new acquisitions must be better than what we have.

 Maybe the release list will not be so big after all

I am with Wilson for once on this one, the chairman is way off beam if he doesn't think we need four or five new faces this summer.

It's not like they are disagreeing. One says he will bring players in while his boss says they will only be brought in if they are better than what is already here. Who would judge whether they are better is surely the scouts/Turner/Wilson anyway so Hodcroft has to rely on their knowledge and judgement.

This is the one criticism I don't get. Yes, Danny Wilson has been known to play some players in positions that are not generally seen as their first choice. But can anyone remember a Pools manager who did not do that? Chris Turner decided that Micky Barron should become a right back and the left-footed Darrell Clarke would be an ideal right winger. Neale Cooper reckoned that the answer to our right-wing problems was Eifion Williams. Turner moved Ritchie Humphreys from the forward line to the centre of midfield, then Mike Newell and Martin Scott shifted him instead to left wing and then left back. We've always done it.

Last week there was some mickey mouse match on the tellybox that I didn't watch, but I understand that it featured Cristiano Ronaldo as a centre forward, Wayne Rooney as a right winger and Owen Hargreaves as a full back. Which knobhead picked that team!

And lets not forget the worst tactical decision of all, moving Stevo from the wing into centre midfield!!!

And the tactically naive Brian Clough moving Ken Simpkins from Goalie to Centre Forward!

That's an interesting point, Richard.
As a youngster on the Wrexham groundstaff Kenny played at centre forward. One particular day they were short of a goalie so Kenny was asked to be the shot stopper. A twist of fate got him the goalie's gloves. When he played centre forward for Pools he was actually reverting back to his original position, again out of necessity and perhaps desperation. His only league goal came against Port Vale in the season after Clough had already disappeared to Derby. Angus McClean picked the team that day.
He normally sits behind me at Pools and he and his wife Marion are good friends of the family.
This season his visits to the Vic have been curtailed by problems with his knees and he is currently receiving physiotherapy to ease the problem. I'm sure we all wish him a speedy recovery. He has some marvellous tales to tell about his time at Pools and is brilliant company.
