Pubs Will Soon Be A Thing Of The Past!!!!

Alistair Darling’s first Budget spells the death knell for traditional British pubs, Shropshire landlords claimed today.

Already 57 pubs a month are closing down across the country but after the Chancellor yesterday raised duty by 4p on a pint, 14p on a bottle of wine and an average of 55p on a bottle of spirits, county licensees say even more will be driven out of business.

Eddie Main, ex-secretary of the Telford and District Licensed Victuallers’ Association, said: “We are now witnessing the death throes of a once-great British institution - the pub trade.”

The Smoking Ban hasn't helped either has it???? :evil:

Plus the Government 'says' they want to CLAMP down on Binge Drinking and Kids drinking on the streets but only put a couple of pence on alchopops!!!! :roll:

It all sounds a bit like....'Education Education Education' and 'Crime & The Causes of Crime'....a load of soundbites that are bullshit!!!! :evil:

Pubs have several objects in their way such asBeer prices & the Smoking ban but I think a big thing is the 'Morning after' breathalyser which is a big killer as blokes working 6 till 2 now darent go out for a few in case they get nicked on the way to work

Business is business. We live in a capitalist society. They'll just have to compete with the rest of them. The Tories should be pleased that Labour are stimulating the economy - after all, that'd be their excuse when they'd do EXACTLY THE SAME upon the doctors' advice to appease the medical profession.

Besides, do you see Shropshire as having a nightclub scene? I'll always prefer real pubs over a Wetherspoon's or a bar but they can't just expect people to come in. And anyway, most of these kinds of pubs are frequented by "locals" who give you the look of death if you don't have 12 toes and a mangina

I like the place. I'd hardly say all the media furore over human rights in light of the Olympics is for nothing, though. Or the fact that this website is one of the few British ones you can look at, right?

One party states have their drawbacks too, I hardly think this place is worse for civil liberties than China, as beautiful as it may be.

You only have to look at the numbers of good old traditional pubs for sale in Hartlepool, mine included.

We'll all be in individual, hermetically-sealed bubbles soon. Watching films and drinking at home instead of going to the flicks and pubs, and communicating by message boards instead of in person, because we never go anywhere where we might meet anyone. Shopping on-line, too...the list is endless

it turns over quarter of a million evry year, but still it isn't enough for the Council or the pub company...................... they set their charges so high as to ensure you can't make any money yourself.......................I hope they all get AIDS - especially those at the Valuation Office and Hartlepool Borough Council........
