Sounds a bit Rivalesque to me... this is the bunker, there are no 'topics' and that's why it's the bunker.

Polite...? that infers you have something to apologise for when you haven't... this is the bunker, any, that's any subject, can come up here, because at times, even on a football messageboard, footy can be a pain in the arse.
The day this board descends to the level of just another football anoraks meeting place where the minutae of every boring scrap of non action is trawled over again and again is the day I up anchor.

Websites do these things all the time, you won't get the product and they'll blame a pricing error.

ASDA did it just before Christmas with lager and a few people at work thought they were getting hundreds of bottles of Heineken for less than a pound. They never got them.

It's apparently a way of getting you on their website in the hope you'll buy something else.

I hope you get yours but I'd be very surprised.

By the way, don't rely on the old chestnut that anything advertised at a certain price must be sold as such. There was a test case years ago that kicked this into touch.

Me too...robbing Bob's! If it had been in their favour they'd be quick to charge it!

If I could be bothered (and I'm not) and it was a bit more substantial, then I'm sure you could have a go at them.

PRICING ERROR: Bouncy Castle
Dear customer

We refer to your order for - 8ft Bouncy Castle with Slide at 70p, which we recently received.

The Focus website contains a large number of products and it appears that, despite our best efforts, the price of this particular product stated on the Focus website at the time you placed your order was incorrect. The correct price is £70.

This discrepancy came to light after you placed your order. Whilst we automatically charge the correct price where the price quoted is more than the correct price we do reserve the right to reject orders where a product's correct price is higher than the price stated on the website.

In this instance the price shown on the Focus website was so significantly below the correct price that we have decided that we must reject your order, in accordance with paragraph 5 of our Conditions of Business.

The error has now been corrected and if you still wish to order this product at the correct price please would you place a further order.

Please accept our apologies for the disappointment and any inconvenience caused by this error, which we deeply regret.

Thank you for your recent email. Please accept our sincere apologies for the disappointment caused by the incorrect price of the Bouncy Castle which was specified on the Focus website recently.

We would like to take this opportunity to reassure you that no money was taken from your account. We only request payment for goods for which we have issued an order preparation confirmation. Your bank may, however, have reserved an amount equal to the value of your order to ensure that sufficient funds were available in your account. It should by now have cancelled this reservation.

Whilst we are not liable to you for our error we do recognise the dissapointment and inconvenience this has caused you and would like to offer you a £30 voucher, as a gesture of goodwill, which you can redeem against either of our new bouncy castles which will be available to buy instore from 5th May 2008.

If you wish to accept the above offer please write confirming your acceptance and quoting your order number, to me at the address highlighted below. On receipt of your letter we will send you the voucher to redeem against one of our bouncy castles.

Please find details of our two new bouncy castles for your information below.

Once again we apologise for the disappointment and any inconvenience we have caused.

Regards

Paul Tomlinson

The two bouncy castles they are offering are priced 100 quid and 200 quid, they think by offering me one a 30 quid voucher I will purchase one, I only wanted one because it was 70p.

write back refusing the offer.Tell them it's spoilt your kids birthday.tell them you find it strange that they are not responsible for whats on their own website and you have lost confidence in them as your ex favourite DIY retailer, and forcing you to wait until May is further inconvenience.
nothing ventured.

Yeah already emailed them back, said the child it was for is very disappointed and I advised them they need to employ people who know how to input data correctly to avoid these problems.

Oh come on now, everyone makes mistakes. Don't tell me you seriously thought the bloody thing was going for less than a quid.

In any case contract law is quite cut and dried: offer (by buyer), acceptance (by seller), and consideration (usually lolly). The marked price is a suggested price for you to offer in consideration and which the seller may or may not accept.

Mr TPP, if the site was crammed full of suspicious offers like that one, or if they'd sent round leaflets boasting daft (but untrue) prices to every house in the area, then your theory about it being a dishonest way of getting you onto their site would certainly hold true. But in this case it seems pretty obvious that someone has let a deciomal ppoint slip when compiling the catalogue. So what? We all make mistakes then hope we will recover them in time. There's no need to get depressed when no windfall is forthcoming. It should have been obvious in the first place. Their gesture of a 30 quid discount is more than reasonable.

The price which companies attach to goods is simply 'an indication to treat', ie telling potential buyers that the seller may accept offers around this price. It is the buyer who then makes the 'offer' usually of the price asked for on the price sticker/website etc. If the seller accepts the buyers offer then a 'contract is formed'. For a legally binding contract to be formed there must be BOTH an offer and acceptance. It is for this reason that a pricing error on the website does not mean that you will receive the item for 70p as the store has not accepted your offer (hence no contract)

Ocassionally a store will honour such a mistake however out of 'goodwill' and supply the goods.

Once a store is aware of the pricing mistake they must however put it right otherwise it would be deliberately misleading.
