Roberto Martinez hailed Swansea City goal hero Tom Butler as "Premier League quality" after his late winner against ten-man Luton Town on Friday.

"He is a Premier League player playing in League One," said Swans boss Martinez.

Yeah, if you like. Be as politically correct as you like, just don't expect the rest of us to join in.

Did I read too much at the time into Chris Westwood's comment in the the programme from the Play Off Final when he gave the lowdown on his teammates;

"Not afraid to have the ball at his feet when someone is in behind him"

I noticed he was pulled off by his manager in the second leg of the Southern Final of the Johnstones Paint Trophy tonight.

I realise I'm being a bit of a killjoy and that nobody probably cares anyway.
Just thought that in the world of football Mr Butler has probably had his fare share of puff jokes and that being gay in the macho(?) football world is one of the last non mentionables and that narrow mindedness has probably made life very difficult for him.
Fair play to him for sticking it out I suppose - fnar fnar

I didn't realise TB was gay (not that it matters one way or the other ). Bunkerites are always saying someone or other is gay, especially each other

Probably.

Almost definitely and we aren't the dinosaurs we appear to be and none of us think like we write on here.

It's just our little oasis where we can behave like daft kids without getting arrested or harangued.. which is rare nowadays, for better or worse.

Too right chip, call centres, for example, are 40% puddle jumpers, 40% 'big boned' lasses and the remaining 20% are just plain old mentalists

No Sir.
Got a mrs and two kids and never thought about fiddling around with anyone of the male persuasion.
I'm just one of those people who believes in equality and understands that those who constantly 'joke' about certain types enforce discrimination whether they do so intentionally or not.
Never had a pair of loafers in my life but I bet you have Mr I?

I'm not actually sure what loafers are. Some kind of footwear obviously but couldn't recognise them.

Back to the main subject - i thought Tommy Butler was a quality footballer in a poor team when he played for us. He carried the team on his own for about the first half of the Scotty season if I remember rightly.

There's plenty. No-one bats an eyelid. No one cares much. It's simply not important.

Mind it's only 16 years since homosexuality was taken off the list of mental illnesses so I suppose they've come on leaps and bounds.

I watched Inside Sport? a programme on BBC about the forthcoming Olympics in Bejing. They were very impressed with the whole set up on a whole Kev and Matthew Pinsent tipped China to top the medal charts. However they were less complintary about the Chinese lack of facilities for the disabled, in fact disabled people in China seemed to be treat like kids in an Romanian orphanage sadx . Tanni Grey Thompson done the report and said things had improved a little since her last visit.

MK Dons manager Paul Ince was continually puzzled as to why referees and FA Officials always referred to him as Magnum, but not wanting to upset them he would play along, flash them a big white smile and have a bit of a giggle with them. Eventually, one day when he was at the FA headquarters in Soho Square talking to their top brass the curiosity finally got the better of him. He said to one of the suits, "Why do you all constantly refer to me as Magnum? Is it because I wear the initials PI on my training top and am suave and sophisticated like Sellick?"

"No", replied the FA bigwig, "It's cos you look like a fkin chocolate lolly."

Even at the last Olympics even in supposedly developed Greece the negative attitude to disability is astounding. We are lucky in this country that there are increasing provisions made for people with disabilites.

Some cultural attitudes are very strange to me. When our lass used to do home visits in Coventry for folk with disabilities, some of the non-British service users were kept kind of locked away in attics, even if their disability was relatively minor.
