Didnt we all have a pre season guess, as to where we would finish in the league??

Im pretty sure we did, would be interesting to see who the optimists / pessimists were in the summer!

2nd - PK & Mutley
5th - Salty & bluearmy
6th - Frank, Town End Timmy, Offshore, Mr Head, 3Quid & Billingham
7th - Mick Taits HB, monkeehanger, & lestakev
8th - Katcha & Miss Tigga
9th - British WH & wommers
10th - Mad John, Mr I & alybaba
11th - Fensy
14th - Grave
15th - marty
16th - Tree & number one
Undecided - Jonny (despite a lot of waffle)

Also notice that despite starting the thread Chip didn't predict anything.

Even the sole Loid had us finishing well above the danger of relegation.

I didn't predict. I don't like predicting something as major as where we'll finish before a ball's been kicked. I'll predict 17th now though

In my defence, seventh was my 'blind optimism' prediction in response to Mr John!!

I still say 12th

"However, as previously said it depends on our signings and one of them, Lee-Barrett is the dogs bollocks and if he maintains his form shown in the 45 mins against Newcastle then I think we'll be hard to score against with him in net and our solid defence...touch wood."

Whoever said that must be on dope.

You can't be right all the time.

despite his provocative stance at times, it has to be said that the number one's posts were all spookily spot on. Everybody just reacted to him in an aggressive manner because they didn't like what he was saying. He got the reaction he wanted, and he has also since been proved mostly right. Bitter pill to swallow for some on here, but if nothing else I think that everyone's expectations are now a damned sight lower than they were at that typically optimistic time of year!!!

teams at the top of League One who want to get up and stay in the Championship HAVE to be able to play good football, including their defenders, because otherwise they'll get found out and come straight back down. Even the smaller clubs such as Southend attempted to play good football up there at least, fair play to Steve Tilson and his team because they had a go, and never resorted to hoofball. Colchester survived easily last season, but lack of resources is doing for them and Scunthorpe this time. However they'll be strong in this division next season, like Southend, and a season in the Championship for a club like Pools would do us the power of good in the long term I think. It would give the players we had at such a time a taste of life up there and they'd learn an awful lot, and not be intimidated when they have to go to grounds such as Leeds, Forest etc in League One in future. I'd rather be a strong League One club thasn a strong League Two club, bouncing between the bottom two divisions. That would be shite, because promotion from the bottom tier was brilliant in 1991, but by the time we ended last season it was expected, because we should be establishing ourselves up here now.
We can pull in bigger crowds than 90% of L2 clubs, and we take followings away in that division when we are doing well which are the envy of most L2 clubs (thousands going to places like Stockport, Barnet, Wycombe etc despite our geographical disadvantage). However I don't want us to be a big fish in a small pond, I want to see HUFC grow into a bigger on e in L1. The purchase of the ground will be paramount to this, and I hope the Council realise this and do the right thing this time. I've started waffling on now and going off on a tangent but I don't care, I want Pools to succeed and grow into a bigger club than we've ever been before. I think it can be done. With IOR owning the ground, it will be done.
