fountain of knowledge, eh? sctatchinghead I couldn't pass a maths 'o' level exam these days, me brain's addled!!!
I think someone put on here in a roundabout way, that 90-odd % of people wouldn't
(in general) ever want to move from their home - no matter that there is a better life financially somewhere else - if the quality of their life in their home town/country (delete as applicable) was good then they wouldn't feel the need to take a chance on moving hundreds or thousands of miles away, and from everyone and everything they've ever known.
Some people have that in-built travel bug (our own Monty for example) a few others on here have moved to other parts of the country and settled, but if given the choice I would like to live here where my friends and family also live.
I would only move if I ever had to do so, and I imagine a lot of people around the world must feel the same????

Well said Mr Parmo, the only thing i can see gained by moving abroad is possibly a better standard of life. I was all set to emigrate to Canada before i met our lass ( banghead ), the wages werent much more than i was/could earn here but you could buy more for your money over there.

Saying that i think i would still go if someone offered me thousands of pounds to move  come on guys start hoying yer money in the pot.

Unfortunately we're all pretty much ignorant of other cultures so we don't appreciate the positives that immigrants bring. Until I teamed up with my t'other half, who is Asian, I thought I was pretty middle of the road. Yes some of the immigrants are ok but we've got too many of them.

I know Mr Head will agree with this bit, having an Asian partner does very much open your eyes to the other side of things. All those 'Paki's' suddenly become people and you start to understand what they bring to the party. More importantly; I listened with some considerable shame, of the effects of 1970's 'paki bashing'. This mainly consistented of families with small children having bricks thrown through their living room windows at night. In Hartlepool it was mainly Milton Road as I recall.

Every race has its positives and negatives, I see no reason to think that its no much the same with Poles, Lithuanians, and the various Balkans.

I was saying in '78 that if Thatcher got into power in this country, I would be looking for a way out of here. But early '79, I met the 'other half', and decided to stay. The Jury is still out on whether or not I made the right decision. sctatchinghead
