Does the phrase 'Winter Of Discontent' mean anything to anyone??

See, when it's perfectly obvious to even the most stupid of people that the Government has got it's trotters deep in the trough, then the Civil Servants want a bit. Then the Council workers want a bit and then the Emergency Workers want a bit and then the snoutful that the Government is creaming off starts to look a bit thin so they scam the people lower down the ladder and then everyone who really deserves their money goes on strike and then we all get royally fooked over.

But wouldn't you agree that anyone who appoints a bird as Home Secretary is seriously mental anyway?? Or else she's a serious psycho hose beast who's got a gob like a vacuum cleaner.

They probably deserve more, but i don't think pools need so many inside the ground when milwall didn't av any at all when we played them. A big bill pools can do without.

have to admit,i dont have any sympathy for them. And personally I dont have an issue with them, but the Miner's strike of 1984 , wapping 1986, when the Police acted as nothing more than Thatcher's henchmen alienated them from a lot of trade unionists.they became known as 2the paper boys" as they ensured the sun made the streets and thats all they really were. They acted brutally as future inquiries confirmed, and now 20 years on ,its there turn.

Just maybe this may be the Labour retaliation against them as Thatcher retailiated against the Miners for bringing down Heath.Maybe Brown or Smith has decided to teach them a little lesson, though probably just wishful thinking on my part as a trade unionist hoping they get a bit of there own treatment back.

Here endeth the history lesson.

their wages arent that bad as an officer starting in the police force (so could be 18) is on £21,009 per year and on completion of 2 years that rises to £24,813 regardless of age.

And as we know Hartlepool is covered by the Cleveland force whose Chief Constable earns £!20,201 per year while the Deputy Constable earns £99,168.

Aren't you forgetting that the reason the police were used was that the unions back then were completely out of hand. A strike was always on the agenda and the reasons were always me, me, me. Sure some coppers were completely out order unlike the perfectly behaved miners and print workers.

My only regret about that era was that community's were destroyed but at the end of the day coal was cheaper to import from abroad and it had to happen sooner or later.

if the plod don't like it then they do have the option of finding alternative employment. There will be young lads risking their lives fighting illegal wars getting a lot less than what the police are.....

21k a year isn't a bad wage when for a lot of coppers their job will consist of sitting in panda cars and having cups of tea.....

It may well be a shite job but plenty of people want to do it for the amount of money they are offered.

Or the over time. And the fact that their shift patterns give the plod a lot of time off.
