My mam used to try to give me a new pair of slippers every year for Christmas whether I required them or not. So I would refuse them and she would keep them for the following year.

Personally, I hate breaking in new slippers, it takes about 18 months before they've moulded to your foot properly. Therefore I hang onto a pair as long as I can. I'm 32 and I reckon I've had about 10 pairs maximum in my life, including when I was a kid and grew out of them quickly. Since my feet stopped growing when I was 14 I reckon I'm on my fifth pair.

My dad is the same, he prefers those moccasin types, and he actually has a big leather needle so he can replace the stitching when it goes. The current pair are probably ten years old at least. And he hates parting with dressing gowns. I only remember him wearing three different ones.
