I was flicking through the LMA site after were named peformance of the week and I noticed that Danny Wilson had recently done an interview.

The interviewer obviously had some tough questions...one of them believe it or not, was:

Realistically what is achievable at Hartlepool; can they one day be a Premiership side?
“I don’t think that is realistic at the moment, no. They certainly held their own in League 1 and only two seasons ago they were 10 minutes away from being promoted to the Championship. So they are capable of stepping up at least one, if not two divisions. Whether it’s all realistic at this moment in time to suggest we will do that I don’t know. I’d certainly like to think we could be in the shake up at the end of the season, to be up there with the promoted teams.”

No we can't, we simply do not have the population nor the fan base. The days of the Wimbledon's and Carlisles topping the top league are long gone. Without a fantastically rich sugar daddy ala AC Monaco, the very best we can achieve is to emulate Crewe as a yo-yo club between Dive 2 and 3.

Without a cock up like Scott,we could get established as a top end league 1 side.Once that happens promotion to the championship is realistic enough, but I think survival in the championship is probably as far as we could go.
If by some chance we did have a good championship season & make the premiership I really couldnt see any hope of survival.

We would never survive, but what a laugh we would have along the way.

In answer to the original question, as Billy Horner once said to me when I told him I thought we would beat Leeds...

Don't be fookin' silly.

at £40-£50 entry into a SINGLE away match in the prem they can shove it - I for one don't want to see Pools play there. Championship would do for me.

Aye me too - we will never have premiership kind of money & the football is shite anyway, doesn't have the passion of the "lower leagues" prima donna stars too scared of getting hurt - fuck em
