Im with ADG on this one,I woulda happily seen England fail to qualify for anything ever again in exchange for a Pools victory on the last day of last season.
I found it laughable the way people were crying into their beer after being in the pub watching England lose to Portugal on penalties.
Only a few weeks earler a shitload of us seen 9 months & god knows how many freezing cold soaking wet hours,hundreds of miles,hundreds of pounds finish in relegation.
That was real dissappointment,not seeing a bunch of overpaid prima donnas miss a coupla penalties on their holidays.

I gave up on England in 1998.

Now every defeat is just like picking at a scab.

ADG - There is no reason why club and national success can't go hand in hand. For some reason in this country things have been allowed to slide big style, international football should be viewed as the highest level of the game.

Clubs do not have to sign international players do they? If a player gets injured on international duty I don't see what the big deal is anyway.....

I lost interest in England around 1998 also, when I realised that they were never going to cause us anything but disappointment due to an inherent failure mentality.
Contrast our mentality with the Germans. They have supposedly been shite for 10 years, but still reached the final and semi-final in the last two World Cups.
In fact, they only conceded to Italy in the semi-final in the last couple of minutes!!!

I would have, its not for everyone but the England trips for major championships are a lot of fun.
