Is the "Wilsons club" upstairs in the Welly in Wolviston? I've often seen the sign for a folk club when drinking in there, but haven't been there for a while.

The Davy Lamp us in Washington Community Centre, happens on a Saturday night and has a guest every week. There's some excellent turns who regard it as their home club and guests are well worth seeing. Last time I was there a year ago was a combined Bob Fox and Tom McConville reunion night.

They've got a web site http://www.davylampfolkclub.co.uk/ with a full list of guests, entrance was around a fiver but get there early cos if there's a good guest on the room fills up and you don't get in.

A tip for real ale drinkers, the bar in the room where the turns are on is bit limited but there's a good range of real ales in the other bar on the other side of the building.

As Mr Frodraff says it's in Washington Art Centre which is quite interesting in itself as it has galleries and that. The folk club room doesn't realy have the feel of a proper folkie venue, a bit sparse and anonymous but they do get good guests there.
The clubs I've liked best have been the Nursery in Hartlepool and the Trimdon folk club. I think Trimdon is still on but only once a month and we haven't managed to get there recently, but I loved their resident band which had about 10 people in it in its heyday and sounded great. Martin Carthy's probably my all time favourite, but I like most trad singers/players, like Richard Grainger. Haven't been to the Cutty wren, Salty....one day I'll make it
