the commentary last night, must have been from a different game than the one
contributors to this board watched.

Although I missed the first 30 minutes, not realising it was a 7:15 kick off

According to Mark Simpson and our own ECG, Pools played some slick football,
we fully deserved to be in front at half time, even though Budtz made three
outstanding saves in the fifteen minutes I heard.
Matty Robson and Willie Boland were both having outstanding games and Michael
McKay was 'nearly' scoring on a regular basis (something he seems particularly
good at ! i.e nearly scoring)

Robson was replaced by Foley at half time, an injury forcing Matty off apparently.
The second half saw Morecambe come back into the game, after the penalty,
Pools response was to take Boland off and replace him with Gibb, McCunnie
taking over the 'creative' midfield role.

Gibb sounded to have a good game at right back, both defending and getting forward.

More saves from Budtz followed, but Pools were stepping it up. Joel replaced McKay
and towards the end Morecambe couldn't get out of their penalty area, but we still
weren't exactly peppering the goal.

ECG's summary was something like 'a very good game, from two teams who believed
in playing neat football, the right way. Morecambe were a credit to League 2 and
looked a very well organised team, with a solid back four.'

I know Mark Simpson, makes Pools sound like world beaters at times, but last night
there were certain passages of play when we were cutting them to pieces at the back
and suddenly they would be one on one with Budtz. How does that happen !
(Answer : there's a hole in the middle of our defence, which is not mentioned in the
commentay)

I'm not having a pop at Phil Dunn, but come on, I rather hear that certain players are
having a mare, than have it glossed over.

I think I might watch the game on Sky, with Pools World on, at the weekend just to
see if they are both from the same game.

Rant over, unless anyone other listeners have any opinions.
Hawklord, you were in the chat room, what was your impression ?

Have to admit that the commentary on PW and the comments on this board certainly don’t tally. I was surprised Robson got subbed going by the PW chat, others on here say he didn’t played well. There were also sharp differences of opinion in how Nelson played.
As PW is an official part of the club I do not expect they are allowed to talk in negative terms and have to follow the ‘company line’.
Everyone sees the game slightly differently. We make excuses for our favourites and quickly get frustrated with those we think shouldn’t get a look in. Last night was particularly frustrating as it was potentially the closest we could have been to a Wembley final.

From all parties there seems to be some consensus – it rained heavily.

Anybody who thinks that we played remotely well last night is either deluded or being paid by HUFC to lie (e.g. Poolsworld).

That's my PW subscription cancelled then, better off in the chat room
were I get to know what's going on quicker than on PW, because my
streaming audio is about 2 minutes behind everyone else's.

What is the point of listening to a totally biased commentary

As I said, I was not having a pop, you gave your honest opinion and summary,
what I can't understand is the difference in the commentary version of the game
and peoples opinions on this board.

Your version of events is pretty much as I remember, I thought Budtz touched one onto
the post in addition to the one on ones, but maybe that was second half.

I'm sure some of the reactions on here are borne out by frustration and they may have
slightly different views this morning, and I appreciate you must be honour bound to
pick out the positives, rather than the negatives, whilst on air.

Ok LP.

Firstly, when you commentate, or co-commentate on a match, theres no way you can't tell it like it is. There are 5 or 6 people in that section of the Press Box, who all agreed that Pools played some slick football in the first 35 minutes. In the last ten minutes of the first half, Morecambe broke through and Budtz made two outstanding one-on-one saves, which were both mentioned and praised in the commentary. Can't remember a third brilliant save in the first half, those were Morecambes only 2 attempts on goal according to my notes.

Matty Robson had a VERY good game down the wing in the first half, ok his final ball and attempts on goal let him down. The word was he was slightly injured towards the end of the half and was substituted as a precaution.

MacKay was very lively in those first 35 minutes, again his name is all over my notes and a couple of turns he made were excellent, including the spin and pass on the edge of the box for Barkers goal. Again, he faded and I'm sure this was mentioned at least once in the 2nd half before he went off.

Gibb did well when he came on, finding space down the right and whipping a couple of half-decent balls into the box.

My summary of the game I fully stand by. Morecambe came to play football...it's funny, but both Pools fans I've spoken to this morning said the same thing. It was a good game for a neutral, end to end, filthy conditions, but both teams played good football.

LP, don't worry about having a pop at me, it comes with the territory. I set myself up by volunteering to be on the website, in the programme, on the commentaries etc. If I wanted to hide in a corner I'd have supported Darlo.

That's the way I saw it. sadx

I'd agree with all of that other than Matty Robson having 'a very good game'. He was shoddy at times and his final ball is atrocious for a a winger. He also wasted two shots spectacularly. 5/10.

That's true. The reaction on here is what I expected to be honest, from the people I expected it from!

The overriding factor is that I've not seen us play well for ages now and I feel that I have a right to be upset about it.

Especially when it appears that some players are not putting the effort in.

I can accept getting beat off good teams, or playing well and being unlucky. It is the poor performances against average teams that get to me.

Again, I'm naturally "Pro-Matty", I like a trier, and by God he tries. There are other, lazier footballers in our squad who I don't particularly like and I feel are over-rated. Matty Robson puts 110% into every game.

Don't get me wrong, I like aspects of Matty Robson's game. Just not his shooting and crossing!

I saw us play well only 3 days ago.

Against a pub team?

I couldn't make it down there, but my mates who went reckoned we were nowt special and certainly not worthy of a 6 goal win- that 2 or 3 might have been about right.

Beating a team off the Rec 6-0 doesn't constitute any great result in the general scheme of how we've played against professional teams recently.
