Alex Reid

Renamed in memory of John Hawksworth, a stalwart member who passed this day 2nd August 2020. RIP Mr Monkeybutt.

Sadly we must add the name of Kevin Minton, Aka Mr Ripper who passed 30/6/22. Kev was also Mr politically incorrect but a nicer lad you could never meet.

I like him, and prob as good as we could have got under the circumstances BUT he’s not as good as Mani D
Add to that Johnson is increasingly looking like a busted flush and it means we really need a mobile fwd with a bit about to play up with Reid

Was that the ZJohnson who it the bar when he came on for the last ten minutes and went close again…that Johnson….?
It’s what he does….. he’s a terrier.

We aren't really playing to either Reid or Johnson's strengths. Reid wants balls in behind to run on to, like at Altrincham, he is not a target man or a hold up striker and isn't very good in the air despite his size, Johnson is literally just a penalty box striker - we haven't given him any chances in the box for him to score from, the rest of his game is fairly poor but you sign him because you expect to supply him with lots of good balls into the box that he will score a hat full from, again we haven't done this at all.
We were spoiled with Mani D, can only really think of Linney and Pearce who could challenge him for best striker in the league.

This is what happened with Colin Nish. Kept lumping balls up high for him when he wanted them at his feet.

yes the one who has scored 0 in 7 and was dropped to the bench last night as manager thought we had a better shot playing 1 up front than include him.

Maybe you can write to the FA and tell them he hit the bar and see if we get any extra points for that

Bitter….?
I have this standard…
If they play well I praise them. clappp

If the play badly I criticise them :angry-tappingfoot:

It’s a simple system and much more realistic than your’s of :angry-tappingfoot: :angry-tappingfoot: :angry-tappingfoot: :angry-tappingfoot: :angry-tappingfoot: :angry-tappingfoot:

I apply the same--see Charman--hes been excellent this year and been rightly praised by me.

I think your standards are just lower...

Is that the same Charman that you repeatedly told us doesn't even deserve a place on the bench at our club?

Yes based on last seasons performances he wasn't good enough--this season, based on a much smaller sample size so early days he has improved a lot---and think Grayson gets credit for that--lets hope it continues.

I think that kind of backs up my point--if players do well they get credit if they dont they won't

But there you go, 3 weeks ago you were bleating in that we had the likes of Charman, who shouldn't be at the club, on the bench. He's proved you wrong based on his last few appearances. And btw so have most of the new signings that you classed as being underwhelming or not good enough before the ink was dry in their contracts.
Who knows, Grayson might get a tune out of any of them yet?

This is the where we disagree -- 2 good sub appearances and 1 good start is great but its not proving anyone wrong until its done consistently (and I hope it is)

I didnt flag any of our signings as not good enough - I said a number the jury was out and in the case of Walker v confusing (still confused at that one)
The ones who have impressed me--and I didnt expect them to be as good are John in particular and also McNally

I have said before when signing a striker you should be asking them how they like the ball in behind, to feet or in the air and practice this in training till they get it right and are both not going for the same ball, as seems to happen too often.

and got well clear of any marker at the edge of the penalty area but a team mate decided an aimless ball into the box was the best option instead of playing him in. know nothing whatsoever what the life of a forward player is like apart from being told by an ex pro attecker that in some teams you are harder to ne found with the ball than in others.

I disagree, I like what I've seen from Reid, different type of player from Mani, chases everything and puts in a shift. Given a straight choice I would go for Reid in terms of fitting into this team. Mani was a reliable target man and did great for us but from what I've seen so far I'd go for Reid and I think and hope he has just as good or better scoring record to come

I like Reid as well but i think in Mani we had likely the best all round striker in the league, so a shame he's gone.

I recall a couple of years ago some people were of the opinion Umerah was an upgrade on Bogle as he 'put himself about more'--that opinion aged like fine milk...

just a pity we do not have both mani and reid in the team together. know we cannot have but there must be an akinfenwa or an akinde type somewhere around to partner him as reid himself is not the battering ram wind up type we need.

And one for Molyneux, ex players good luck to them.
I'd swap Reid for Johnson at the moment, nothing happening for him and we've put a couple of balls in that Johnson would've thrived on.
Need to get back on the front foot and stop giving left winger so much space.

Reid to me is looking a bit lost without any service, did he have a good game yesterday? I don't think so, but I think that's mainly down to lack of creativity and service. Just my opinion.

I think the full team missed Francis.

We now have 5 days to recruit to a play off season.

That's now onto the Governer.

Francis was a big miss. One of the first names on the team sheet already. Hope it's nothing serious.
