New signings still desperately needed

Renamed in memory of John Hawksworth, a stalwart member who passed this day 2nd August 2020. RIP Mr Monkeybutt.

Sadly we must add the name of Kevin Minton, Aka Mr Ripper who passed 30/6/22. Kev was also Mr politically incorrect but a nicer lad you could never meet.

New signings still desperately needed

Postby loyal_fan » Sun Aug 10, 2025 7:00 pm

Up front…we have no options off the bench at all
V surprised Campbell wasn’t even on the bench…not sure if injured or leaving but walker, feather and hunter all there and him not makes no sense.

We really need someone to put on to stretch play and give Francis a break…and no that isn’t Folarin, another fwd and another wide player needed

Don't think we'll see any more coming in anytime soon. Charman, Folarin are options wether we think they're good enough or not. I'd imagine there'll be no new signings unless we get a couple of long term injuries.

We can write the season of now without attacking reinforcements imo
I suspect we will get a couple more in, and Campbell may leave but let’s see

Grayson said after the new keeper was signed that he still had scope to bring a couple more in, but preferred to wait till the transfer window closes on 1st September as there'll be some good players who are currently holding out for moves in the EFL who'll be available then.

I doubt very much he'll be panicked into jumping the gun on that, but you could always drop him a line

Put your feet up then, you’ve got a flyer for the season.
What are you gonna do with your spare time then…?

I'm still hoping we sign someone called Doyle, it's been a long time coming.

The title of the thread is misleading, we are not presently desperate in any way. Maybe "new signings desirable" describes our situation better?

The issue is that we clearly (no pun intended) need an injection of a couple of loanees who can drop straight into the first team and make the difference between mid table mediocrity and a realistic play off push just as Cleary belatedly did. Yes it's very early days but it's hard to envisage the current squad making a serious assault on the top seven unless the rest of the league is equally as mediocre.

Went to watch Gateshead v Southend on Saturday. If that game is anything to go by, Pools have nothing to fear about getting to the play offs. Southend won in a canter but were nothing special. They were given the game by a truly abysmal Gateshead side. Take a look at the highlights and you’ll see what I mean!!

Watched it too, the equivalent of painting by numbers applied to football.

teams and players would not be in this league if they were just mediocre. its having the best of the mediocre that counts.

Unbeaten so far. No goals conceded. We have a team of sorts. We're in a better place than I expected just a few months back. But you're all correct - now is the time to bring back Big Stevie.

Aren't there already 22 full time players? How many is enough?

but we all know if its business as usual that 22 will be reduced by injuries to where the squad picks itself. we need a squad size in the numbers grayson feels happy with by having to leave some out of the squad in most games. it all depend on whats left in the playing budget i,d guess.

It seems like Grayson will be playing 532 formation and the 11 v Yeovil looked our best 11. We have Francis, Daly and Campbell fighting for the attacking midfielder spot so I can’t see him bringing another one in for that. We are all pretty happy with the front 2 too so I don’t know who he would drop for a new striker. Will be interesting and exciting to see what we do get as they will need to be very good to get starting spot in attack.
I would like a more attacking wide player to play as a wing back if we are playing that formation.

I'm still curious about there being a vacant number 8 shirt.

The plot thickens if or when injurys kick in.
Should be nailed on Big Danny does less work this season.
Could be the difference to 7th or 8th or below.
