You can only apply for asylum when you're here but you can apply for a visa from overseas. Most are coming from France so they could apply via the British Embassy there wonder why they don't do that if they're legitimately coming here for a chance to work?

I was friends with a South African girl until very recently, mid 20s, been here since she was a teenager. Was working at a school until December, resigned as she "wasn't enjoying it". Didn't have anything else lined up or anything. It's now 8 months later, still no job and on UC. sctatchinghead

I think it is because they are fleeing war, pestilence, torture and buggery in war torn France.

I doubt they would qualify for a visa with out a sponsor or they have to show the funds they can support themselves, an address they will be living at, Visa fee etc. Having applied for 4 tourist visa it’s straightforward providing you can prove the above, you also need to provide a biometric fingerprint. If they were coming for work they would need an employer to sponsor them. I doubt many asylum seekers could fulfill those requirements ?
There was a scam a few years ago where ‘companies’ were arranging student visas for a university, some never attended even a day at the university.

Aye, the Universities provide a pathway into the country for some to just disappear.
I may be a bit naive but shouldn’t higher education be free for uk citizens first of all, instead of this explosion of tin pot uni’s everywhere to milk overseas students.
My daughter was on a two year course which was cancelled without notice and no explanation given halfway through the course…..but it transpired their course started afresh with Chinese students who are far more profitable.
It’s all about the money, it always is now in this country.

if you actually enjoy the work you do you can count yourself damn lucky and be one of a small percentage. its a means to an end where pride is about doing a job and not getting everything in life for free.

If they come over in a boat with no documentation they got sent back to France and swapped with someone who has applied the correct way.
And hopefully that will get the boat crossings down.

You can only apply for asylum in the U.K. not from another country, might be wrong though ?

It's been set up in France to apply for the UK....it's part of the deal.

The moment the government try to send a migrant back to France there will be a human rights legal battle going on for years (guess who pays for it?)so actually even if the French are prepared to accept the return of the illegal migrant, none of them will actually go. Starmer and co dont mention that, do they? The whole idea is a massive con designed to give the illusion the government are doing something about illegals when actually nothing will change.

if you have nothing to hide you would take as much documentation as possible to a new country. are the good guys coming over been encouraged by the bad ones to destroy everything like they have till they are all in the same boat together literally.

It's one out for one in, so the numbers won't change but the costs will go up cos the French won't be paying their fares, and the legal fees for appeals and Human Rights issues will go up.
As for give it a chance, what like Rwanda was given a chance?

A certain small percentage without documentation will, not everyone.

Man lands at Dover, no documentation...... cant be sent back because of ECHR. A long and costly legal battle ensues. Three years later, man is still in the UK.

There are far too many illegal immigrants coming into the UK, and there are far too many legal immigrants coming into the UK, such as students, who have no intention of studying, and when their time is up, disappear into the murky world of takeaways, Turkish barbers and Deliveroo and Uber. I am no expert on the problem, but form my opinions on what I see with my own eyes and hear with my own ears, and at 7am on a weekday morning when I travel to work, I have never seen so many black women travelling to and fro to work in care homes in East Durham, at least they are working, but I'm sure our own people could do these jobs. Also I've noticed, just in the last few weeks, every other Arriva driver seems to be Black or of Asian descent. Its almost like it is a deliberate conveyor belt of organised labour from across the globe. Also Mutley mentioned sometime ago about working with 30 or so men from the Ukraine, what right have they to be in the UK? I suppose because they are white that makes it ok. The fookers should be back in Ukraine fighting for their country.

I'm a Socialist btw, and I believe immigration needs to be aggressively controlled, and given a chance, I'll be telling Jeremy Corbyn this.

Also, this country was going down the pan, long before mass immigration made things 10 times worse, bare that in mind Little Englanders, and if 5 million immigrants were sent back tomorrow, little would change.

The work ethic of some U.K. citizens went out the window generations ago, passed down from generation to generation, why work when you can be better off on benefits ?

They are brought in as cheap labour who won’t cause too many problems and I’d love to know what rate they are actually paid.
I believe unemployables now should be in permanent training full time 9-5 five days a week with the odd weekend thrown in for their benefits orbwdoing the same hours on community schemes.

Couldn't agree more about the benefits for nothing culture that's now accepted.
Get them working for minimum wage or better on community schemes or non-skilled jobs and instil a bit of self respect / respect for others and pride in themselves and the community. It'll also demonstrate to the younger generation that entitlement to everything they want is not the norm.

You need to think logically, the organisers will give em free passage, it’s no good for the ‘business’ having ‘customers’ who might be gambling their money and think twice in the first place…after all it’s only a tiny number involved being returned.
Let’s be honest the seating arrangements aren’t gonna be strained by another one clinging on.
It’s customer service Jim, but not as we know it.

fine in theory but doubt it would work in practise as the bleeding hearts brigade would quickly get involved saying its the kids who would suffer in the end if they refused any work. nobody asks the question if they thought about their own kids and got off their arses this problem would not happen. one day a stand has to be made to crush the benefit culture we have. thing is we all know ourselves who many of them actually are in the area we live.

Yeah I know it's theory, but something has to change to stop the country and society in general going down the pan.
Maybe National Service or compulsory employment is the answer and it would get more paying taxes rather than simply draining the coffers as well as the sociatal benefits.

The people know what needs to be done.
The administrators are other worldly dreamers who have no idea and respond to the minority screamers, more concerned about their media image than doing their real job.

didn,t the idea of national service without the miletary aspect was mentioned a dew years back with little support about the idea. do think one of the problems with many starts at school when many are sold something they can never achieve. all jobs should be seen as equal and even in todays world many are unsuitable for post school education and should be told so. people will never be equal in ability but there are work available for most. even people with severe disabilities have managed some kind of work as they do now.

National Service or compulsory employment involving some form of a trade for the lads not just marching up and down in a parade ground.
When I was at school the army did a presentation on the Junior Tradesman Regiment, you could join at 16. It was such a great presentation I told my Mother I was going to join the army, no chance she would have signed any papers for me.
Couldn’t the army, navy and airforce go round the schools promoting the armed services ?

Nice thought Jamie….. which I agree with …but 50% of the lads will be busy agonising over what deodorant they’ll choose to wear tonight.

Or insisting they are women.

What happens on a really bad day..When say 6 of Interpol's most wanted slip the net.

About 6 weeks ago,Iranian nationals were arrested to prevent a planned terrorist attack, they came here by dingy.
Now a Northern Irish priest is in a serious condition in hospital, after being smashed over the head with a bottle,in his church
I would hazard a guess by who by
When are some people going to open their eyes.

Imagine it was 1940 and we were meeting the Germans half way across the water and arranging their accommodation ..someone would point out…”hang about they’ve got uniforms and have guns and what were the tanks for…?”
But we’d be told by Mr Chamberpot the PM that they were being processed and not a problem.
When their numbers reached a million, Mr Chamberpot got quite concerned about their constant goose stepping n stuff but said they’d go back to Germany if they were naughty…..and in the end did just that and they all went back…..just as Mr Chamberpot said they would.
