Arctic Monkeys ticets went on sale at 9am today,I believe they sold out by 9:30.
By 10am there were over 300 ads on Ebay.
I have no objection to touts buying & selling tickets at gigs,I have used them myself.I like the Swiss idea of licensed tout, they buy your spares at 80% face value & sell at 120%.
These days though every popular gig is a lottery, not because of ticket touts but because of Ebay opportunists who wouldnt have a clue where or how to sell tickets otherwise.

Just look at this,Arctic Monkeys ticets cost £55,sold for £255 at 10A.M this morning.1 hour after they went on sale.I really hope something goes wrong & the buyer doesnt get into the gig, these people paying those prices are only encouraging the opportunists to continue.

Its the same with any popular concert or sporting event these days,it may be a pain going through registration & submitting photos for Glastonbury, but at least it curbed the touting.

Thats not always possible Chip,in the case of someone like Springsteen there is a worldwide tour schedule & only so many dates available.Although in the Arctic Monkeys case I see no reason why they couldnt play as many as is needed.
Im hoping that The Sex Pistols have droped the Ebayers in it by announcing extra dates after the initial ones all sold out.
I would like to see one of these bands actually make it a condition that you are not to sell these tickets on Ebay & that Ebay are not allowed to sell them, then sue Ebay if they do.

It's not the band though is it??

It's the promoter, the band have nowt to do with it once they get off the pub circuit. The promoter pays the band a flat fee.

I find it funny - last time I saw the Arctic Monkeys I paid £3 on the door at the Empire in boro, and it was one of the best gigs I can remember. Few hundred people packed in tight, absolutely mental.

sorry but thats bollox. that band are big enough to dictate all the shots. if the entire tour has sold out in 30 minutes as claimed, that suggests they are either not playing enough gigs, or not playing big enough venues.

theres no foolproof way of making sure your real fans get tickets, but there are ways you can do your best to stop them getting ripped off.

bloc party for example did a tour of intimate venues last year and gave initial purchasing opportunity to those folk that were already registered on their website/mailing list.

Well it's not entirely bollocks is it?? As you said there's no foolproof way. You of all people should know how the system works. The entire UK tour is six exhibition centre gigs and I'd be very surprised if the band had much to do with booking them. They might be big but I bet they're up to their bollocks in debt to the record company, same as most bands.

the monkeys thing is slightly different.for the last 48 hours tickets have been on pre sale to anyone who is registered through their website, they send you a code which you can use to access the ticket site and you can buy 4 tickets, between me and our lass we've got 4 e mail addy's registered so we could have bought 16 tickets. so basically the tickets that were on e bay that early were the fans ripping off other fans.
we didn't buy any this time by the way but I can see why people do looking at the prices

Dawlish, apparently people were selling the pre-sale codes on Ebay without tickets.
