I came across your question - as to why Mr Lawrence is called 'Lennie'.
I'm not sure that this is the correct answer...
But isn't 'Lenny' (and therefore 'Lennie') one of the many nicknames or alternative names for the name 'Lawrence'?

if they don,t it could be laughable lawrence just before 10 tuesday night. i for one aint going to pay a tenner to watch.
