Was having a trawl through BBC Sport and the new system adopted by Rugby League caught my eye. For next season, normal promotion and relegation is suspended and places in their 3 divisions have been awarded on a grading system that takes into account Fandom, Finances, Stadium and Community work into account as well as results on the pitch.

It'll never happen in football (hopefully not anyway) but see where you think Pools would be (League 2, NL or NLN) if these criteria were applied:

"Clubs were awarded points - and a grade - based on five categories: Fandom, performance, finances, stadium and community, with a maximum of 20 points on offer.

Fandom [5 points]: Taking in attendances, memberships and digital engagement with fans.

Performance [5 pts]: Teams rated 1-36 in terms of league position over three seasons, with bonuses for league/cup wins.

Finances [4.5 pts]: Income, financial stability, diversity of revenue streams and business performance.

Stadium [3 pts]: Quality of facility, match-day experience, capacity, utilisation.

Community [1 pt for foundation, 1.5pts for catchment area]: Success of foundations as charitable arms, and how much competition for supporters in local area.

To reach Grade A status, clubs had to score at least 15 points."

I score Pools as bang average - in the NL where we belong :?

rugby league are always quick to bring up new schemes to make a dying game look more attractive. its just the big end of season games and the cup final that seem to get large crowds. you could have a club who are getting results but everything else at that club could get zero points with another completely the opposite that becomes points fodder for the rest in the league. it will never happen but something in football needs to happen to stop bankrolled clubs getting an advantage over the rest especially if foreign owned.

What a bizarre system i thought sport was about sporting performance.
