An obsession of the wife is to see one .
Every time it comes up on face book with dubious pictures of startling colours she has to down the Headland usually before midnight to sit in the car on a Marine Drive with all the other Muppets waiting to see the big appearance that never appears…after a couple of wasted hours, were the only highlight is turning on the engine to warm the car up while scanning the night sky aimlessly. despair kicks in and we head home.
So last night at 11 she announced it was happening again , then surprisingly said …”. Lay’s not bother, eh?”…….Hallelujah….. cured, but it took some time and wasted nights for the bloody penny to drop. clappp clappp clappp

My Mrs has always had the same obsession, we went down Seaton just before 9ish for 30-40 minutes last night and she managed to get a couple of decent photos from down the Zinc works road. Her friend text her about 10 saying that they were really clear down the Headland at that moment so she went into the back garden and we were surprised at how clear they were.

Used to head out to lighthouse to try and see them, up on Tyneside whenever news announced an appearance so largely gave up myself.

But could actually see them with the naked eye last night by just going in my back garden. A photo will always look better as it can capture more light than the eye but was still impressive.

Yep. Up over Catterick/Leeming area last night at about one in the morning. I was woken up and instructed to act as bouncer to female family members. The lights were the best I’d ever seen, very impressive - quite humbling in fact.

We sort of understand them, but imagine centuries ago the reaction.

helps though if you look in the right direction to see it.

We went on a plane to see it in 2012, I think it was a 3 hour trip with pre-flight presentation by some astronomer bloke & light refreshments for £179 per person if memory serves. It is quite a sight and we were lucky that night because we got sat next to a couple on their second trip the 1st they seen nothing. You are not quarenteed to see anything its down to weather " no refunds " I was told the best thing to do was to go on a Northern Lights break of 3 nights from Newcastle, cannot remember the cost now but something in the region of £600 / £700 inclusive per person.

Dunno what the fuss is all about.

Viewing the Middlesbrough smog cloud from Crimdon or the Old Cemetery down the Headland on a sunny day is much more impressive.

A truly breathtaking sight...

The Wagga Moon when the molten slag was tipped, could see it as a kid from the bedroom window from me nan’s house Kingsley Avenue.
Bit dodgy if it fell into rain pools, you got fireworks and shrapnel combined.
